It is definitely worth getting a tour guide to lead you through the ruins at Pompeii. There is so much to see and so much history that getting some details on what you are looking at and what to look for is very important.

Highlights of Ancient Pompeii include the Big Theater, Small Theater, the Forum, Basilica and the Temple. It is worth a visit and will be included in most tours.

It is like a plaza in Pompeii ruins so it is nice to walk around; otherwise, most of the things we saw were between walls and walked on the "alleys" but this one has a bigger space to appreciate the ruins.

Of all Pompeii temples the Temple of Apollo is the most noteworthy one. And it was closed! P.S. a few previous reviewers claimed having been inside the temple recently but judging by the photos they provided they have not as the pictures are those of the Basilica and the Forum colonnade.

After a long visit to Pompeii, we stopped at the temple to take a break before we looked for the exit. It was very quiet and there were some columns still remaining from the temple.

A remarkable opportunity to use your imagination -- the front of this massive Temple is relatively intact but most of the temple is "here" only in the sense that you can see the numerous columns that held up walls and roof. You can stand among the broken columns and find yourself inside the building that was the center of ancient... More

This is Pompeii's most important religious building and was first constructed around the 6th Century BC. It is basically ruinous like many Pompeii structures, it features the foundation and a few of the columns. Located on the west side of the civic forum where most tours filter through.

This is one of the definitive sites in Pompeii you won't want to miss. The architecture impressed itself on you quickly so your visit will be relatively short.
