On your way to/ from the Villa of The Mysteries, this long street which is (technically) outside the old city wall of Pompeii city, is a sobering time to contemplate life and death. It probably depends on how good your Latin is, or how good your guide is, but it's the inscriptions on the monuments and tombs which are very... More

They apparently put the dead outside the city walls. There are many tombs and it's interesting to see. I guess the poor people didn't get them or there would be many more.

Absolutely worth visiting on the way to the villas with some of the best mosaics and frescoes at Pompeii. Along the cobblestone way, you'll see dozens of graves on either side of the road. Careful on the cobblestones (wife turned her ankle). Very interesting glimpse into funerary practices at Pompeii.

You are likely to pass through here if you are coming back from the Villa del Misterio. There are ornate memorials to family members who have passed on. There was also some restoration work being performed by some Dutch students who were friendly and informative, but never interrupted their dedicated labor.

Street of Tombs is located at the city's periphery and is linking the city with the House of Misteries. There are many interesting tombs and monuments on the both side of the street.

Although near an exit we were surprised that there wasn't anybody else in this part of the site. The memorials of the dead merchants etc was very interesting and we were surprised how much remained

Was on a Gate 1 Tour of Italy. All was good however I could have spent another day (my tour was only 4 hours). Will go back again. Imagine, chariot marks in the cobblestones.

Such an old and city and planned with such an intelligence. Interesting place to visit all the more they history is so full of curiosity. Tombs are on the end of the city and the rich of the town lie here resting in peace.

Each of the sights at Pompeii are so special from the perspective of preserving history of everyday life in the ancient city. You'll come upon this area of marble tombs while exploring out near the Villa of Mysteries. There are also houses, monuments, street structures and more and more of ancient Pompeii. ...
