I saw a photo of this house, specifically the peristyle courtyard, a long time ago. The picture itself was quite old because the herms in the garden still had their heads on, the shrubbery needed care, and several masks were hanging from the peristyle roof. What puzzled me was a dark object across the garden from where the picture, in black and white, was taken. It almost looked like the outline of a chest or fireplace, which I knew it couldn't be the latter. This past year I made a second trip to Pompeii scarvi and the house was open to the public. I was really so excited to finally see what the dark object was, providing it was still there. It was!!!, and it turned out to be a lararium, which is a shrine to the household gods (lares, penates) who protect the house and its inhabitants. I was so thrilled; the mystery was solved.
This house has wonderful wall paintings in the third and fourth styles. Practically every room has a scene or design. One room even has painting that looks like wallpaper. There are mosaic floors in geometric patterns, and one floor has a rosette in the middle. I hope one day to return. Don't miss seeing it.

This house is often neglected because it is across the street from Casa di Vettii. Inside you will find frescos, mosaic floor sections and lots of details that only the rich could afford. 10 or 15 minutes here is plenty of time.

Walking around the center garden area are a series of rooms. Some of the frescoes are complete others are partially warn or broken. It is a very nice house and the center court yard garden area is wonderful. I really enjoyed seeing the floor mosaics. The geometric design one is fabulous. If in the area have a look.

One wing of the peristyle of this Casa is raised like a stage leading some archeologists to hypothesize that the owner of this home was fond of the theatre. The glass and gilt medallions of cupids for which the house is named have deteriorated, but the wall paintings are well preserved with clear details and bright colors.

You can stand there and practically recreate it in your minds eye as there is so much details remaining.

When you go to Pompei its not what to see but what not to see. So many great places. If you have a good guide, they will try to maximize what you see and what you don't.

This is another shining example of a well preserved house from before the eruption of 79AD. The house is a must see with a variety of frescoes, mosaics and other artefacts such as marble counter tops etc.

Definitely one to check out!

even back in the day there was a class system and some of the buildings are amazing for detail and this is a great example, very clever elements for cooling and protection

Seriously, when you are walking and walking, for hours and hours, you really lose count of what you have actually seen, because there is just SO MUCH TO SEE there.
This was another lovely house which you should put on your MUST SEE list.
