- Sinziana MBucharest, Romania153 contributionsImpressive and worth seeing (museum inside)This is an entire religious complex that is worth visiting. First of all, there's the church (free visit), which is impressive - reminded me of the Cathedral in Vatican City. Secondly, there's the tower. Normally, climbing to the tower is allowed (paid visit), but the elevator was under maintenance, so we couldn't go up. Thirdly, the building adjacent to the church displayed pictures from the history of the settlement. If you're into history and old photos, you'll like the exhibition.Visited September 2021Written October 15, 2021
- purpletravllerGlasgow, United Kingdom326 contributionsBeautiful building a bell towerBeautiful church and well worth a visit. Would also recommend going up the bell tower (couple of euros to go up to the top by lift) as the views of Pompeii archaeological site and the surrounding area is quite stunning. Suspect many tourists miss this end of Pompeii which is a shame as there is such a lot to see and do.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 29, 2023
- SallamLondon, United Kingdom30 contributionsBeautiful place to visit...This cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches that I have ever visited. It is often overlooked by tourists who visit the ruins. It is a vast building which is a real sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of life and the heat of summer. I am slightly biased I must admit - we got married there (at the high altar) in 1988 and I always try to visit each time we return!Visited March 2021Written January 31, 2022

This richly decorated church is not as old as you may assume, it was started at the end of the 19th century and finished in 1901. - travel_the_world_melissaNew Jersey1,566 contributionsA MUST SEE- Most colorful church and very spiritual placeThis basiica and tower are main things to see whike in Pompei. Pompeii is not just about ruins but this place is part if the history and spiritual experience in Pompei. There is a museum in the basilica which has furniture from Bartolo Longo who was the founder of this place and was beautified by the Catholic Church. They say that miracles have happen here in front of a painting of Mary the Virgin. The basilica is didicated to Mary the Virgin and the Rosary. The mass here is an experience and the singing sounds like angels. I highly recommend you go up to the tower to see the beautiful views of Pompei Mt Vesuvius and Naples. What an awesome beautiful view. There are dedications in the hallways to The Rosary Mary for miracles that people claim happen to them or family members it’s overwhelming and emotional experience. There was also a orphanage here and many photos of children who once lived on the grounds here. The eyes of the children will bring you to tears you can see their pain. Its very much a historic heart throbbing experience here. I recommend you go to a mass here to experience the services. You can get tickets to the tower inside the gift shop which is the door behind the tower walk straight to the right. You will see religious items being sold by the nuns of the basilica.Visited October 2018Traveled soloWritten October 26, 2018
- Jusso1Leeds, United Kingdom93 contributionsExtraordinarily SpiritualI visited here on a Tuesday evening at around 6.00pm when an evening mass was underway and I was extremely moved, I do not even recognise a religion so as to why I was moved so much I couldn't tell you. I felt such a moving feeling I visited again for another evening mass on the Thursday ? Why ? Once again I couldn't tell you, I just felt compelled to experience it again. This place is beautiful and somehow makes you feel like nothing matters in this world, all very strange for someone like me. If you go to Naples / Pompeii you must get to an evening mass at the Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Rosary, it is extraordinary.Visited October 2016Traveled soloWritten November 15, 2016

This beautiful old church stands in a main plaza, near one of the Pompeii train stations. Its inviting facade faces a beautiful, park-like setting where people gather to talk and just enjoy the day. Walking into the church is like walking into the past. It is an incredibly beautiful example of stone masonry and frescoes. The main altar is amazingly beautiful. The image of the Blessed Virgin is exceptionally lovely. The brilliant stars in her halo are beautiful and lend to the trancendant image. We very much enjoyed looking at the architecture, sculpture and frescoes. We were fortunate enough to be there when the sisters were doing a rosary. Neither Mom nor I are Catholic, but we enjoyed the beauty of the service. I understand Latin, having taken it in college, so it was enjoyable to me to hear the old language. Mom just enjoyed the beauty of the service. The brothers and sisters working there were friendly and kind. If you are into beautiful architecture or want to attend a church service while visiting Pompeii, please stop by this beautiful sanctuary.Visited April 2011Traveled with familyWritten February 16, 2012

Though the church is beautiful and imposing, what I found most rewarding was visiting the tomb of Blessed Bartolo Longo which is in a chapel accessed through the side of the sanctuary.

We visited on our wedding annivasary, and was lucky to witness somebody else take their vows at the same time as we would have done 39 years ago, it brought years to our eyes and made our visit feel very special. The church is beautiful and well worth a visit , we also had hoped to visit the bell tower but sadly it was shut during our visit.

Grazie mille

grazie mille a chi potrà rispondermi.

You can take the Circumvesuviana to Pompei Scavi and then either walk 20 minutes into town or you take a taxi from the Circumvesuviana into Pompei town. I think the fare is about 10 Euro but check with the driver before getting in the cab.
There is a local bus that leaves at the bottom of the hill from the station, but you may need to buy a ticket in advance from a shop nearby.
The alternative is the train from Naples railway station to Salerno, which stops at the Pompei town station which is a 2 minute walk to the sanctuary.
This summer the trains were running every 30 minutes. Just make sure the train stops in Pompei.
The sanctuary is well worth a visit and if you want to stay overnight there is a pilgrims hostel right across the square from the church.
