If you're sick of commercial el cheapo tour guides rushing around than
Rafaelle is the man for you !   He is a highly qualified scholar and
extremely passionate . He lives the tour and makes you live back in
time with every relic and artefact coming alive as well . I felt the
energies and the beautiful sensational chaos that Pompeii once was .
Rafaelle makes you live through the various emotions of the city based
on historical and impressionist context . He made me sad in one street
and curious in another . I felt the Pompeiin's pain and their last
moans in their last moments . It was very existential and yet very
nihilistic . I didn't even know what wonders Naples offered . Rafaelle
introduced me to true raw unsolicited Italy . If you're a Purist and
looking for best bang for buck ....I highly recommend you go with
Rafaelle even if you have to wait a bit . Thanks Mate from Down Under

Archaeology Museum Naples, skip the line and a private guide. This is money well spent. Maria from Private Tours Pompeii (owned by Raphael Tours) easily arranged everything for us. We challenged her with our timeline and logistics since we were staying in Rome, and she was wonderful. Paulo picked us up at the train station in Naples and drove us to the museum to meet our guide. It isn’t an area you want to walk through as a first time visitor and Paulo quickly maneuvered us through the unique traffic that is Napoli. Fabio, our guide, was wonderful to spend more than 2 hours with. He is very knowledgeable and personable. We had visited Pompeii on a previous trip to Italy so we were most interested in the artifacts. Fabio brought the artifacts and the stories of the people to life. Maria arranged Paulo, our driver to pick us up 1 hour after we finished with our guide Fabio. Paulo took us back to the train station to return to Rome.it was all so easy!

From my husband: We had visited the excavated Pompeii on a previous visit, but had not been to the museum in Naples. We both feel that one must visit both: Pompeii town excavated is important to see for its location just under the looming volcano of Vesuvius, but the rooms of the houses are empty. The grooves in the streets left by the chariots and carts are important to see, as are the unique small street bistros, but all the objects found during the excavations, all the statuary and the mosaics are in the museum, along with the stoves, the glassware and ordinary objects of Roman life. With Fabio selecting out the objects to view, this was an incredibly focused experience, well worth the time on the train. Especially since, if you know when to look, you can see Mont Cassino (rebuilt) on the way.

We had a great time, and we heartily recommend this company for its skill at facilitating all of it.

I had one day between Positano and Naples with international flight the following morning. I truly wanted to see Pompeii but had to deal with moving from Positano, trekking with luggage and I needed the assurance that I would not have complications anywhere along the way that would compromise my international flight the next morning. I emailed the company to inquire whether they could do all of this for me and they got right back to me with an unqualified "yes". They were quite easy to deal with, prompt and professional. They picked me up early at my hotel in Positano, shuttled me to Pompeii where I was introduced to my own personal guide for the day - five hour tour - handled and stowed my luggage. Alessandro my driver was full of information about what I was passing on the way, friendly and courteous. My guide at the site was Giovanna who was cordial, attentive and a font of information. She grew up near the ruins and they have been a part of her for her entire life. Five hours went by as if they were only one. I would highly recommend her. At the end of my tour, she took me back to the entrance where my driver was waiting; he picked up my luggage from storage, put it in the back of the van, said good-bye to Giovanna and off we went to my hotel in Naples. Another hour trip and I was there. I truly could not have pulled this off on my own and I want to thank, and highly recommend, Private Tours of Pompeii for pulling this off. A seamless day and culmination of a dream I have always had to visit Pompeii, which by the way, exceeds every expectation I had. They were terrific. They get five stars for organization, promptness, friendliness and knowledge of the site (in Giovanna's case).

Having Italo as a private tour guide made the whole experience better. Then we had some control over what to see and when to stop for a rest, as opposed to the group tours we saw, many of which were packed into dense crowds. I found that Italo gave just the right amount of information, and kept us engaged.

We toured both Pompeii (morning) and Herculaneum (afternoon). Of the two, I preferred Herculaneum, because it was not as hot, due to sea breezes, and the fact that the buildings were taller, affording more shade. The artwork and overall structure are better preserved in Herculaneum, because it was buried in mud, whereas Pompeii was incinerated, so that much of that site was destroyed.

Note that Pompeii had very few places to sit for a rest, and water was not available once inside the park. Bring a hat.

This tour was amazing!!!! Tour guide is very knowledgeable and provided an almost insider touch to the tour. He painted a picture of Pompeii as if he lived during that time. We took the small tour which I highly recommend. It allowed us to get into places larger tours couldn't.

We took a private tour that included 2 hrs in pompeii with a guide and a van + driver to sorrento.
Excellent tour, the guide was amazing and took us to less crowded areas of pompeii and had excellent knowledge and a good sense of humour. The driver was good and easy to communicate with.
Can strongly recommend this company!

We had an outstanding tour of both Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our tour guide, Rossana, was the best! Her background in archelogy and familiarity with sites made the trip even better. I went with my 4 college age nephews and we all learned so much and had a great experience.

We were lucky enough to book our private tours of Herculaneum & Pompeii through this fantastic tour company. I cannot recommend them highly enough!
We pre-booked our tours via email with Vera who was always very prompt with returning emails, gave us lots of information, nothing was too much trouble.
This made the whole booking process very easy👍
Our guide Giada took us for both tours & she was amazing! She was incredibly knowledgable & passionate about the history, which brought everything to life for us.
Giada was always happy to answer any questions that we had, you can tell that she genuinely loves what she does.
I have visited Pompeii with private guides 3 times, I have to say Giada was the best yet. Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this company to others.

Our family toured Pompeii at the end of October. We spent approximately 2.5 hours exploring the ruins with Antonio, our guide. Antonio was very knowledgeable about Pompeii, and we thought it was great that he wanted to be sure our children were learning from the experience too. He would often ask them questions and tell stories that they particularly enjoyed. We felt that 2.5 hours was a perfect amount of time to get a sense of what happened at Pompeii without being too tired or overloaded with information - especially with children. After our Pompeii tour, a driver took us to Mt. Vesuvius. He drove us safely, and was flexible in waiting for us to climb the volcano. He also took us to a delicious and non-touristy restaurant for a late lunch after our climb. Thank you for a great day!
