A guide is really important in order to fully appreciate the ruins and get a proper sense of what life was like. However, we weren’t taken to many of the main sites eg the amphitheatre or to see the casts of the victims, so after the tour we had to go and see them by ourselves without any information given on them (although I appreciate the ruins are huge and you can’t see everything, these are definitely bits worth going to). Also the website did not make it clear that despite paying quite a lot for a tour of the site the actual entry tickets are not even included.

I can’t recommend this enough. I went to Pompei 3-4 times on my own or with friends and always loved it but this time decided to take a guide and we weren’t disappointed.
Went for the two hour visit with Benedetto who was really good. Very attentive, great English, and some amazing stories and anecdotes. You do feel like you’ve have seen so many things and have learnt about so many things even though it’s been two hours. It’s well worth the money.

We spent a delightful 3 hour tour of Pompeii with Francesca, a knowable and entertaining art historian. The place, its history and art came alive through her explanations and descriptions. We highly recommend her private tour to understand and navigate the site.

We took this tour as our Naples shore excursion on our Mediterranean cruise. It was a perfect combination of attractions/activities. We saw Pompeii, which is grand and large, and has a variety of buildings/ruins (homes, temples, public baths, brothels, fast food shops). We then went to Herculaneum, which is a smaller site that was destroyed by the same volcano that subsumed Pompeii. Herculaneum has several houses with intact mosaics and frescos on the walls and floors, and offers more small details than Pompeii. Together, the two archeaological sites provide a window into ancient life. They are not duplicative of each other; we were glad we did both. We capped off our day by climbing Mount Vesuvius. Climbing the still active volcano was dramatically different from any of our other cruise excursions. (Mediterranean cruises can involve seeing lots of ruins, archaeological sites, and ocean views, which is nice, but sometimes you want some variety.) Climbing Mount Vesuvius was challenging; at the start of the trail we were given walking sticks, which were really useful since the ascent is quite steep at times. At the top of the trail you can see inside the cone from which smoke wafts out. On a clear day the view down to Naples Bay would be awesome, but we were there in overcast weather. Guide Pompeii may be the only tour company to offer this particular combination of activities on one tour. (In my research I did not find any other companies who offered it.) Guide Pompeii was extremely accomodating of our needs. We enlarged our group from 6 people to 8 people, but did not want to pay the extra cost for a mini-bus. As a result, there was no seat on the van for our Pompeii/Herculaneum guide, so she came by train to meet us at Pompeii and then traveled by train to meet us at Herculaneum, while we took the van. She was wonderful. The driver of our van was excellent too and gave us a running commentary and answered any questions we had while on the road. I highly recommend Guide Pompeii.

Nello was great. The tour was great! We learned a LOT and went everywhere from Sorrento to Pompeii. Definitely use Nello as your guide. Lots of fun and we'll never forget it.

I had a great overall experience with Guide Pompei. Giovanni was very informative while also making the tour entertaining. Too many guides get bogged down in over explanation and too much detail. We were given just the right amount of information to get a feel for life in ancient Pompeii without making it boring for us. Giovanni was very easy to understand and his instructions on how to meet him at the site were easy to follow.

this was our main reason for going to this area & it didn t disappoint! went on the train - 2 euros 30 each way per person, drops you off directly at Pompeii. 12 euros for a guide but well worth it for things we would never have noticed ourselves - brothel advertising especially! & avoided the queues as there is a different gate for tours. 11 euros to get in or 20 euros for 5 sites over 3 consecutive days including Herculaneum (Ercolano) would recommend for any age group. tour 2 hours but you can stay longer & look around on your own afterwards at your leisure. If you want a souvenir guide book & think they re expensive please be prepared to barter - up to half price depending on what you want!

I have traveled as Nello as my guide for three times now in and around the Amalfi Coast. By far he is the best guide...he is knowledgable, personable, and funny. He gives inside information and insight that is so interesting and fascinating.

Nello's logistical skills are also remarkable. He knows everybody and can make the logistics of a difficult transfer or trip so easy and flawless. It pays to be in his very capable hands.

He comes from a family of guides. His father has been a tour guide for decades. Nello's love for his guests and his home country and treasures is indisputable.

I have been to Italy many times and I can assure you Pompei is deffinetly one of the places one should visit. You can take a stroll on your own but much better is to take a guide. You will hear more, see more, feel more and waist less time!
We met Raffaele by the gates. The first moment he made us feel special, feel like ancient Roman citizens. He showed us around and we spennt a usual day of a Pompeian with him. We started from shopping (women), politics (men), then went to the baths, brothel (OF COURSE!!!), theatre etc. His English is very good and spoken with such classical Italian accent that it makes your day even better!
You can find him in Facebook as I did!
