In ancient times this building was a Granary market. Nowadays it is used as a storage area, open to the public, where a great number artefacts, found on the site, are on permanent display. Mostly amphorae and other ceramic jars and containers, but also stone and marble tables, fountains, a cart, statues...

... and human remains, preserved by casts! During the excavation, the archaeologists poured plaster into voids in the pumice and ash, created by the decomposition of the bodies of the victims. When the plaster hardened, they removed the pumice and ash and the casts remained like sculptures, containing the skeletons of the victims. All life in Pompeii ended abruptly on that gruesome October 17th 79 AD.!

You cant tell what this is from even a few feet away unless you get very close- we could have walked past it, which would have been very sad. You can see many artifacts from the city as well as several plaster casts of people.

A really interesting part of Pompeii, on one side of the forum. This is the Forum Granary, now used to house thousands of the less important artefacts from the excavations at Pompeii (the more impressive ones are housed at the Archaeological Museum in Naples). There are a huge number of amphorae of all different sizes, some evocative plaster casts of the bodies of the inhabitants of Pompeii in their death throes as well as stone tables, columns and bits of statues.

Located on the western edge of the forum, this building with eight openings, arched at one time, was a fruit and vegetable market, but today they hold many artifacts from the Pompeii excavations. It also houses some victim casts of the eruption.

Directly across the Forum from the Macellum is what used to be a granary. Now it is used to store discovered items from around the archeological site. Neatly stacked or stored in bins, they await further cataloging and possible display.

The Granai del Foro located at the north west end of the forum is a few arches that acts as a repository for some of the artefacts excavated. Plenty of pottery, tools and other variants. There are also a few of the famous plaster casts of the victims including one of a contorted dog. The couple of casts add a powerful image to what would otherwise feel like a Home Depot catalogue from 2000 years ago.

Rather big depot where you can see some of the (many) amphoras that are being excavated. Here you can also see a few of the famous plaster casts.

This was the location of the plaster casts and other artifacts of Pompeii. It was physically located at the north end of the Forum, on the left. I've had a vivid memory of the plaster cast of the contorted dog, so it was on the top of my list to find.
