...is among the most important and largest monastic complexes of the city!!...is the Basilica of Santa Chiara in Naples!!...with all its four majolica cloisters!!...it is even said to be an Italian national monument!!...the facade of the Church has an ancient rose window!!...above the entrance door!!...and the interior of the Basilica has a single nave!!...and on the sides there are ten chapels!!!...the building was wanted by the Angevin king Robert I...together with his wife!!...and he chose the best painter of the time!!...to fresco the Basilica!!...and it was Giotto!!...so on the walls of the nave you can see scenes of the life of the Madonna!!...the miracles of St. Francis and St. Clare!!...the Basilica of Santa Chiara!!...was also bombed devastatingly...during the Second World War!!...but fortunately the Majolica cloister was unharmed!!...then clearly the Church over time was renovated!!!...what can I say!!...absolutely to see this monumental complex of Santa Chiara in Naples!!...a real charm!!💒🔝💯💬️!️

The church is large with medium adorned walls. I was not impressed. Honestly if it wasn't for the monumental complex nearby (which is a breathtaking experience) , I probably wouldn't have entered this church. Final tip: go see the monumental complex of Santa Chiara (maybe passing through this church as well).

The medieval church is a restoration, mostly destroyed in WWII. It is free, stark, without much decoration. However, you must visit the cloisters. If you are standing in front of the church, walk around to the left side to the entrance to the cloisters. The frescoes are lovely, the decor is beautiful and the small museum in the far corner from the entrance (well marked) is exceptional. If you walk through the museum to the archeological area, you'll see immaculate digs into the earliest foundations of the monastery.

The church is free but nothing special. The cloistered courtyard in the adjacent monument complex is more interesting and is a must see. It is reviewed under Complesso Monumentale di Santa Chiara.

On holiday in Naples, accompanied by some Italian friends, we had a nice tour. We also wanted to visit this church, but unfortunately we found it closed: a great shame.

I visited Chiesa di Santa Chiara in August 2019 as part of a self-guided walking tour. It is located across the street from the Gesu Nuovo Church. It is an old church with a nice altar and a lot of nice artifacts. I recommend reading up on the historical center of Naples in advance and getting a good guide book and map. I was a bit rushed since I was on a cruise but I hope to return to Naples and spend a few days visiting everything carefully.

The Church of Santa Chiara is well worth seeing but the cloister, with its magnificent majolica tiles is perhaps the most gorgeous cloister any of us had ever seen, and we have seen many, many cloisters all over Europe. Don’t miss it.
