I can't believe I'm only the second to review this cozy little street market. Here you'll see no sellers of selfie sticks and fake Gucci bags - this is where locals and restaurants go to buy fish and vegetables. Highly recommended for experiencing Neapolitan daily life and street photography!
Be aware that the market is only open 8 AM - 1 PM

There are two food markets in Naples Porta Nolana which is predominantly fish and seafood and then there is La Pignasecca.
It’s not a market in traditional sense such as the markets in Spain under one roof. It’s mainly shops in one area over a couple of streets and a few stalls on the side of the road.
However a must visit! The selection is outstanding. A true mecca of Italian food mainly from Naples. You will find a great selection of local delicacies.
Open everyday, were there shortly after 9am midweek and some stalls were still not open/ setup, it’s probably worth going a bit later.
It feels a bit safer than Porta Nolana however stay safe, hide your valuables and hang onto your phone/ camera.
Must try fresh ricotta, taralli napoletani, pasta fritta, salami and mozzarella.

Fantastic place everything is being bought and sold a real melting pot and it goes on every day in the middle of naples .
Super location , parts sell fish and sea products , part fruit , part veg and the largest part is the clothing not forgeting antiques etc .
The one thing about this market is that it does not feel very safe , you always feel someone has their eye on your wallet , I would not come down here with more that 50 euros on you .
A real gem of a place

Places like La Pignasecca are the authentic local places travellers should go in order to feel they have "seen" the city they are visiting and they have "met" the people. This is the sort of place we always look for so we can feel we have really visited and lived in a particular city. It's only a small "sample", but it's the authenticity that makes it real. Nothing false about it. You almost feel like a local. And you can do some shopping too!

Pignasecca has a very local feel with a mixture of small shops and stalls that attract lots of shoppers from early morning through to mid-afternoon. Castel Sant Elmo stands high above and the area is easy walking distance from the ancient quarter.

More a street of shops with some goods displayed outside than a market. Scenic walk to funicular railway.

A true Neapolitan experience - did not see any other tourists. Just take your time and soak it all in, the back streets are also beautiful to look at.

Bonjour,
Bon voyage !
