My group of three went on a private tour of the Naples Archaeological Museum and a city walking tour on May 4. We were hosted and guided by Pina Esposito on this full day tour. We met at the museum and spent the entire morning viewing the art. It was wonderful. Pina is very knowledgeable and really enhanced our experience. We then had great pizza at her favorite restaurant and spent the rest of the day walking and touring the old part of Napes, where she lives. It was marvelous!

I highly recommend Pina. Her knowledge and service was excellent!

On 27 September, my husband and I joined a couple from South Africa for a delicious and memorable food tour with Susy. She is from Naples, but she has a lovely British accent. It was a pleasure to listen to her tell us about the history of the places we visited and the food we enjoyed. Ask her about the origins of sfogliatella! Thanks to her local connections, we were treated well at each of our 7 stops. Two were for almost full meals, including a stop at the excellent Antica Pizzeria Port Alba, near Piazza Bellini. It was so good, in fact, we returned for lunch a few days later. :) We absolutely recommend Susy's tour, and encourage you to book it early in your visit to Naples. Buon appetito!

We did this tour and Daniella was our guide - she was simply superb. She was funny and charming and took great care of everyone’s dietary needs. She was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her city and it’s food, traditions and customs.
The food we tasted was simply outstanding, pizza, fried pasta, antipasto , limoncello, gelato, pastries- honestly out plant regret was having a pastry for breakfast before we started.
Daniella gave everyone tips and advice on other activities.
Oh if annoyed me and that was the Americans in our party didn’t even tip her and she totally deserved it!
Highly recommend this tour

We did a food tour in August this year. We enjoyed but we expected a little more, more background about the food and specialties. I would recommend a food tour when you just arrive in a city as it gives you a great idea of great places to go for food and some sightseeing. This food tour was a little too expensive for what it had to offer.

We had the pleasure of doing the food tour with Mario last week. Mario was so knowledgeable and entertaining. He took us to amazing places where he was obviously well respected. A wonderful culinary and cultural experience that distracted from a rainy day in Naples. Thanks so much for organising us and accomodating us at short notice. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Let me start of by saying thanks to our guide. She was friendly, interactive, entertaining and her English was perfect... nothing wrong from that side...and she is the reason the rating is not lower..

But....
-the tour is way to expensive: more than 50 euros p.p is of the chart for a street food experience of only 2 hours...we overpaid a whopping 85 p.p
-the food is good but not exceptional: we visited many other places during our stay were the food was better..
-the area covered is very limited and some venues are very average. For example we ate between the garbage in a small alley in front of a supermarket.... not quite a romantic experience; same for a restaurant were you were surrounded by security cameras and screens....

We would not recommend this tour eventhough our guide made the best of it.

Really looked forward to doing his tour having already spent a day in Naples seeing food that looked totally jaw dropping and the local passion for it.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get under the skin of what food means to a Napoletano i.e. the food culture

(1) We had some buffalo cheese and prosciutto. Tasted nice of course; we often get similar in Lidl.

(2) Then onto the fried pizza. My wife is vegetarian, so was told she could only have something if someone else also opted to have the meat-free option. I was more than happy to do this but it isn’t right to make this a “group problem” - it’s your problem. We made it clear at the time of booking that one of us was vegetarian. Cater for your customer - don’t take the booking if this is a problem you can’t deal with.

(3) limoncello tasting. Free to anyone who walked in off the street.

(4) gelato to finish. Fine - but let’s face it, not exactly an earth shattering experience or something you wouldn’t do anyway. As an Italian guide on an earlier tour said to us “gelato is gelato, right?”

This tour did not do justice to the food of Naples. Shame! 35 euros was the most tasty thing about the tour i.e. overpriced.

To be clear, the guide was very informative and did her job really excellently.

Having been on approximately 20 food tours around the world, including a wonderful one in Venice, I was disappointed with the Street Foods of Naples tour.

The tour was 35 euro and it included four stops - buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto, deep fried pizza, limoncello, and pastries.

At the first stop, we got a large piece of mozzarella and a slice of prosciutto. It would've been nice to have had a piece of bread to go with it.

The second stop with fried pizza was a good idea but the advertised dough stuffed with ricotta, tomato sauce, smoked mozzarella, and black pepper did not pan out well. We each got a half of one and the pizza had no flavor. The consensus from the group was that it was very bland. It needed meat or more sauce or herbs or something. A fourth of one of those pizzas would've been enough for us to get an idea of the concept.

The third stop was to a store that specialized in limoncello. The group was offered tastings of their version and the limoncello cream, as well as a chocolate limoncello candy. As a non alcohol drinker, I got a tasting of their lemon granita. This was a nice stop but the sign outside advertised free tastings and when we returned later in the day to purchase souvenirs, we were offered a tasting of about 6 of their candies. So why again were we paying for this stop?

The fourth and final stop was at a patisserie where we could sample a pastry of our choosing.

The history of the city and the narration down the streets was great but for a food tour, the value just wasn't there and in all honesty, the main pizza tasting was not tasty. More stops with small tastes would be great or perhaps adding a traditional Napoleon pizza to the tour and maybe arancini or other bites would be nice. Surprisingly no stop included anything to drink. After the tour, we were hungry so we ate at a popular pizza place where we enjoyed pizza and drinks.

I love food tours as they offer a great opportunity to sample a variety of food and to learn about a city. Unfortunately I can't recommend this one.

Ah-ma-zing food & cultural experience !! Susy fed our tummy so full with lots of food varieties from breakfast & coffee, pasta, pizza & local Napolian foods, gelato, limoncello, etc. So glad we did this tour. Naples, we're coming back for you :)

Our food tour with Susy was a major highlight of our short time in Italy. I understand our experience was unique, as only my husband and I were on the tour that day, so we were able to get to know Susy over the course of the day... and we are so grateful for that! She was an absolute joy to be around, as was hearing her insights on food, culture, and history. And of course, we loved the food and drinks. Espresso (of course), pastries, eggplant parmesan (mindblowing), pasta, fried pizza, fried anchovies (don't knock it - they are amazing), limoncello and candies (these candies will haunt us forever), gelato... I am certain I'm missing something. Bring an appetite. :) (Sidenote: Is it wrong that I wish I had eaten more? I'm certain I'll never have better sfogliatella. Have an extra one for me when you go - because you absolutely should.)

Please note that the tour includes a decent amount of walking. I'd say maybe 2-2.5 miles (at least 3 km). If that's a factor for you, I'd still contact Viola, who does the booking. She may be able to accommodate you. For your average lazy but able-bodied people, my husband and I did just fine. ;)

We're so glad that we chose to join this food tour! Our experience was memorable and wonderful. Thanks, Susy!!
