As the Piazza is next to the railway station and to the centre of the city you can see all types of people pass-by. On one side of the square you will find several restaurants (but be aware of your bill)..

Terrible costumer experience to get a ticket for the L1. There are no automatic machines, you have to buy it from a staffed counter. I asked the guy if he spoke English or Spanish and he said he did speak Spanish, but he did not. I tried to explain to him that I want to buy 2 tickets (for round trip), and he told me (in terrible Spanish) he doesn't sell them, that I have to go to a newspaper stand or tobacco shop and buy an all day ticket. I told him I don't need it, I just need two. He keeps on insisting that I do need one. In the meantime, an old Italian lady comes up without saying a word, puts €2, gets her ticket and change - all while I'm there. I tried again to explain and he keeps on talking to me like an idiot, so I just gave him a look, and told him to piss off as I walked away.
Also, if you do get your ticket, it takes 20 minutes to enter as they block all the turnstiles except 1!.

This "Piazza" was located right in front of our hotel, and was what you had to cross to get to Napoli Centrale, or the main stration of Naples. It is always extremely chaotic along the roads because there are no traffic lights, and crossing the street is always a danger, but especially at night. It is extremely loud as well, and from inside our hotel all night we could hear the noises from this plaza. It also has sort of a shopping centre with an underground passageway that includes stores. Because our hotel was right nearby, we thought it would be a good idea to go visit some of the stores before taking a Taxi to the airport. The design of the stores are nice, but the shopping is TERRIBLE, there are literally no good shops with the exception of the Provenzale store, which we spend a good deal of time in. The design of this passageway is cool, but it was almost definitely not worth our time. Unfortunately, you probably have to cross this square if you are headed from the train station. but it would not be a ridiculous thing to say to try and avoid going through or around this area, because there is not much to see here and it is not the safest area for sure.

We wandered up through piazza Garibaldi sometimes 2/3 times a day during our 10day stay, it was the way to main station. Lots of cafes and restaurants in main thoroughfare as well as beggars and people trying to get you to buy something from them. We preferred to get the escalator downstairs and walk along past some nice shops and couple of restaurants, you will find the ticket booths for the metro system here or walk on and come up into the main station.

The area had a ton of vendors trying to sell their products. The side streets had too many vendors and not enough space to walk. This was my least favorite place of my vacation.

The surroundings of Garibaldi station are really filthy and only 15 minutes convinced me to take the Circumvesuviana train back to where I came from.

Here is where travellers arrive by train and bus .
The square has been developed somewhat over the past twenty years.
It has certainly improved.
The area is now much cleaner and safer .
Lots more places to stay and eat .
Great cafes with delicious confectioners.
Here you will see the hustle and bustle life of Napoli. The diversity very noticeably has improved.U
Great places to eat here too

Massive Piazza outside the main Naples railway station with Metro and bus connections. It is in the midst of major construction works at the road entrance when we visited so choose your access carefully if you are on foot or you may have problems crossing the endless flow of cars, taxis and scooters. Some bars and shops around the square for refreshments.

This large square was kind of indimitating from the outside, but there were actually loads of really affordable restaurants around it and a neat shopping area below. We ate a brilliant lunch for probably the least we'd paid for a meal the entire trip.

Piazza Garibaldi is the large square outside of the Main train station. Due to this the traffic is heavy and chaotic. There is however some great coffee bars and shopping to be had in the underground mall.

The surrounding area is a bit grubby and dirty with many homeless loitering around drinking all hours of the day. I could understand people feeling somewhat uncomfortable at night / dark in the area.
