It is not so much the Via Toledo that is worth it, but the underlying metro station. It is truly unimaginably beautiful how the ceiling and walls on the (main) escalator in particular create the illusion that you feel like you are in heaven. A short stop is really recommended.

It was not what I expected, the neighbourhood is rough and the place seems to be held together with grafitti and piles of rubbish. There are beggars everywhere and we couldn't get along the Piazza without being approached numerous times by hawkers and sales people.
It is very handy for transportation links, but be aware of your surroundings at all times, there was one person in our building robbed while we were there.
The roads are treacherous, drivers do what they want but they can smell your fear, keep your head up and stroll out on to the road like you own it- it's the only way to make them stop, otherwise they try and drive around you. Horns blare constantly, even all night.

We were surprised at some of the negative coments from other reviewers. Four of us were there in the middle of the day and found a good restaurant whilst waiting for our train. we encountered only one beggar who moved on when we refused to donate. We were able to source tour buses to see the city which were good value.

I really like Naples.
Noisy, cheerful, very colorful.
I advise you to live near the Train Station and Piazza Garibaldi. Yes, the area is so-so
Don't expect silence at night.
But then you won’t waste time traveling to a hotel or apartment and won’t get lost in the city,
and it is very easy to get lost in Naples, even for an experienced traveler.
Living near the station is an ideal option for exploring the city itself and the Amalfi Coast
on a budget and on your own!
I heard that Naples is unsafe, but thank God, everything was fine for me.
I'm from Odessa and I like seaside cities where there is chaos, crowds of tourists, delicious food and authentic buildings.
I walked at 6:20 in the morning in the Plaza Leopardi area, it’s far from the center, it wasn’t scary. The locals themselves say that after 9 p.m., when it gets dark, it’s better for a woman not to go out alone.
But, in principle, in any tourist city, there is a possibility of danger!
I think that if you are a very correct and serious person who loves order in everything, you are unlikely to like Naples.
And if you are young at heart and the sea is knee-deep, feel free to go and enjoy...

We almost get hit and robbed by a moped that regularly warns a "partner" that we are tourists; we turn the corner and we get tackled by a guy who threatens to stab us if we don't pay (pay for what? ). We had to pay 50 euros for the risk to be truly armed was too high to take. He threw me into a car out of nowhere and threatened to make himself understood. The people present were with him so that, even if I can defend myself, alone against a group of alleged armed I would have no escape. Law enforcement absent, they see nothing. We do not review the rest of the city because unfortunately we did not get to see it. I can say, however, that from the station to the pizzeria , I will not name, they just tried to fuck us , with the bill above all, despite being mega respectful and even tipped when it happened. I strongly advise against, the vacationer is not seen as one who makes money but as one to fuck

Serious safety incident
May 2024 • Couples
I was in Naples in May 2024. I was looking for where to have dinner, and while crossing the road I noticed a black man walking to a meeting. Then everything was like a haze: a strong blow, blood, I was on the ground, a hospital. Now I'm still in the hospital. Brain hemorrhage!
While driving into the city, I noticed a lot of unfriendly people on the street. I do not recommend anyone to visit if you value your life!!!!

Terrible costumer experience to get a ticket for the L1. There are no automatic machines, you have to buy it from a staffed counter. I asked the guy if he spoke English or Spanish and he said he did speak Spanish, but he did not. I tried to explain to him that I want to buy 2 tickets (for round trip), and he told me (in terrible Spanish) he doesn't sell them, that I have to go to a newspaper stand or tobacco shop and buy an all day ticket. I told him I don't need it, I just need two. He keeps on insisting that I do need one. In the meantime, an old Italian lady comes up without saying a word, puts €2, gets her ticket and change - all while I'm there. I tried again to explain and he keeps on talking to me like an idiot, so I just gave him a look, and told him to piss off as I walked away.
Also, if you do get your ticket, it takes 20 minutes to enter as they block all the turnstiles except 1!.

A piazza that includes a central hub for many rail lines, city bus routes, taxis as well as airport and port busses. Customer service is in the piazza to get help on the different lines, where to go, how to buy. There are many shops and restaurants within as are washrooms, available for 1 Euro. Be careful of the traffic around the piazza. I did not see a traffic light anywhere. There are a few vagrants loitering around. Be wary of pickpockets. In the 4 days I was in Naples, I was aware of 3 such incidents discussed at the hostels I stayed at, that happened during the prior weeks.

Filled with illegal aliens, trash and shady men... Woman don't be alone!!! Don't hang around after dark.
Waiting for a bus becomes very painful, choose the metro or on foot to reach the center.
I had the bad idea of taking accommodation on the east side of the station, as the bus passes every four times.
Otherwise Naples is more beautiful on its beautiful neighborhood heights. Check the neighborhoods carefully before taking accommodation.

Area of the city near the main train station, Napoli Centrale. We didn't feel unsafe during the day, but the area is a bit sketchy. There are much nicer areas of the city. The only reason to stay or eat around here is if you need to be near the train station.

I would like to know if it is an easy trip via the Alibus Shuttle from the Napoli Centrale Train Station to the Mollo Beverello port to take the hydrofoil to Sorrento.
Some people say it is easy, others say it is NOT easy. Just a little confusing and I need to know _b_e_f_o_r_e we arrive in Napoli in June.
Thank you.

Hello Dianne,
Yes, it's a piece of cake to pick up the bus at Piazza Garibaldi which will then whisk you directly to the port. Be sure to buy tickets at 1-50 Euro each before you board as you cannot purchase them on the bus. Bon voyage and enjoy Napoli and the surrounding area of this beautiful region.

I would like to know how to get to the port via Alibus Shuttle to take the hydrofoil to Sorrento.
We are a family of 12. I may need a wheelchair for my sister as she has a weak knee and I don't want her falling down in a crowd of people. Is there an assistant that can help with disabled people?
Our date of arrival in Napoli Centrale Stazione is Wednesday, June 17, 2015 @ 1:00PM. We will be coming from Rome on the Frecciarossa.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
