Majestic historic building in the center of Naples. It is worth reaching it to visit. Rich in history all the surrounding environment. With little you find yourself immersed in the true Neapolitan environment, inimitable warm

I saw this building in the film 'Passione' by John Turturro, about the musical heritage of Naples, and wanted to go and see it when I was nearby.
There's not a lot to see, but the building is amazingly beautiful. The simply symmetry is breathtaking, and the intricate artwork on the arches is wonderful. Unfortunately, the piazza is so small that photos don't really do it justice and you really have to see it to understand how beautiful it was.
If you're nearby, I'd say it's definitely worth visiting, but I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to see it.

I tried to visit Palazzo dello Spagnolo in Via dei Vergini,19, but all that I could see was a big wooden closed gate...
It seemed to be a private property.Nobody speaks english in the area and I didn't find any person to ask for some informations.
On Via dei Vergini are a lot of fish and seafood sellers. They sell their stuff directly on the street.

Our trip to Naples had a few dramas, commencing with a midnight arrival due to air traffic problems in Europe. Our host Nicolo was nevertheless waiting for us at the airport, always friendly and relaxed befpre and during our stay. The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable. Despite many flights of stairs up through the renaissance building to the b&b rooms on the top floor, we rate this 5 stars for the unique generosity and facilities, including the roof terrace, great all day snacks, wine, coffee, and good breakfast with local pastries. Nicolo's wife Anna was equally gracious and helpful. There is plenty of assistance to get heavy suitcases up and down, order taxis, late night on-site availability of our hosts (who do not actually live in the building) when we needed it. No, not a 5* Palace hotel, but a 5* Neapolitan experience. Location very good for historical centre and general atmosphere of crumbling, beautful Naples!

The doorway alone is majestic enough but the sight of the double-flight external staircase, that effectively separates the main courtyard from the smaller one, is another mega visual, sort of Escher in my twisted mindscape.

Some of the reviewers gave their opinion because they were statying at B&B in this building. We found the place accidentally - "Look inside this gate, seems unusual". The gate was between stalls of the street market, so we were surprised when we entered the courtyard. Former palace, nowadays used just like a normal house. It was built in 18th century and is famous for its elaborate staircase with high arches and ornamented ceilings. Worth a look if you're around.

Similar staircase - althhough in poorer condition - can be found at Palazzo San Felice at Via Sanità 167.

The Spanish palace is considered a national monument since 1925 and before was, without any doubt, one of the most beautiful palace of Naples. The visits do not last very long and is strongly recommanded to be here with a guided tour. The most interesting activity is to climb the stairs and see all the apartment doors with their magnificent ornaments. Unbelievably, this palace is still in use as a place where, people lives as into an ordinary building and, probably, they will never fully understand that their apartment is part of an historical monument of Naples. I know that, elsewhere, this should be a museum and treated with more respect, but not here. God please, forgives the neapolitans for having forgotten the beauty they have.

If you are going to Naples and want to visit the Archeology Musuem and spend time in an authentic Naples neighborhood, teeming with a diverse set of people and shops, this is a special place to be. The hostess will welcome you, in Italian. There is an English speaking guest in the house as well who will be glad to help you plan your day.

The reviews you see here are from people who passed by and seem to have taken a peek at this amazing structure. No need to stop there--you can comfortable stay here and take in life as Neapolitans live it.

Walk in any direction from the Palazzo and you will find many neighborhoods of interest.
The museum is a ten minute walk away as are several churches of note. But you won't feel like a tourist here because you will be surrounded by people who call this home.

A note about Naples' famous pizza. Actually its always soggy on the bottom as we found in place after place. Most places just serve pizza and short of finding upscale dining we did not easily fine better local eateries. Ask for help on this and you may do better.

I searched it out as this trip to was to do all the unusual. It is within 5 minutes from the Duomo and the heart of Naples, so really not out of the way. Encountered the market first and it was lively and authentic. So where was the Palazzo? Like so many other structures hidden behind market stalls but not necessarily a bad thing.

Massive wooden door was open and peering in to see this elegant, beautiful white and green staircase was quite a contrast to the grittiness of the market at your back.

I thought it was stunning.

The structure was impressive, but looks like it's an apartment complex now. The wooden doors were open so we were able to peek into the complex but didn't want to go into the building and disturb the residents. As other reviews mentioned, stop by if you're in the area but don't go out of your way to see it.
