This incredible example of 16th-century Neopolitan baroque architecture is like a tiny pink jewel box on the inside—truly one of the most beautiful churches in the whole city. The outside façade seems very plain in comparison. Don’t let it fool you—go inside and be amazed!

A church which takes one's breath away with the wealth of artwork present in every single corner of the place. Beware of its closing hours during lunch. It also has a bathroom past the courtyard which can come in handy while touring the city.

Wow, we almost missed this amazing church because it was covered in building work. An absolute must see. Incredible decorations and painted ceilings and painted walls. One of the most beautiful churches in Naples.

A beautyful church located close to Santa Chiara cloister at the historical center of Naples. Very impressive front exterior followed by a more interesting interior. It will complete your tour of historical Naples.

At first glance, the building looks like a "bleak-looking and gray" industrial building. Don't let this look fool you. The inside sights are one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen. Stunning furniture designs, and stunning sculptures surround you everywhere. A dense and cramped schedule made us shorten our stay in this amazing church. When you plan your schedule, you should endeavor to arrange "at least an hour / hour and a half to soak up all the beauty and make your enjoyment perfect.

Impressive in both the inside and the outside..
The truth is that when you see the building from the outside you can't imagine how it's like in the inside.
It is definitely worth a visit.

This church, the most important Jesuit Church in Naples, has an interesting history. Originally built as a palace for the Prince of Salerno in 1470, it was sold to the Jesuits in the 1580s and they constructed a church from it. When the Jesuits were expelled from Naples in 1767, it passed to the Franciscans but the Jesuits returned in 1821, only to be expelled again in 1848. You can tell it apart from other churches by its strange façade. Now that I know it was originally built as a palace, I understand. It doesn’t look like a church from the outside and if you are not looking for it, you could walk right past it. The church’s interior plan is that of a Greek Cross with three aisles. Whilst the architecture is Renaissance, its interior is completely Baroque. There was a choir singing when we visited and I found it quite beautiful. Situated in the lively Piazza Gesu and right across the road from Santa Chiara. It is also a 5 minute walk up to the corner to Gay Odin where you can have the best gelato in Naples after your visit.

Seeing this church from the outside and then comparing it to the baroque at the inside will surprise you.
Very worthwhile visit.
It can be hot in summer in Naples, so this visit in the cool will do you good.
And inside it is true beauty.
On the outside you can see that this building originally had another function.

I have not seen guides. The challenge in Italy is the language. The texts under the exhibits are very often in Italian. I suggest you will buy good guide books and study the venue by googling before.

What is the opening hours of this church please?
Arthur R
New York City, NY61 contributions
Monday through Saturday the Church is open 7:30 to 12:45 PM/ and 4:00 PM to 8 PM. Sunday it is open 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9 PM. Of course, it is better to arrive a little later than opening hours and arrive with sufficient time to view the church before closing times. Masses during week days are 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12 and 4:30; Sundays 8:30, 10:00, 11:40, 1:00 and 4:30 and 8:00 PM. Some these services are limited to a small chapel rather than the whole church (such as the 10:30 mass). I have been there during the 10:30 mass and had access to the principal part of the church, but it is always better to try to visit when there is no mass in progress. Also, the light, in my opinion, is better in the mornings than in the afternoon.
