- giacomina17Brisbane, Australia564 contributionsStunning.Such a peaceful place to visit. It is a quiet haven in a very busy area. Be aware that it closes during the day. It is truly a beautiful church. It is also one of the stops on the red line hop on, hop off bus. Sit in the quiet and watch the tourists pass by inside.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 6, 2023
- JJJC_Family793 contributionsIt’s a Jesuit church and that tells you what you need to knowAs almost all Jesuit churches, this one is an elaborate affair with endless eye candy. If you had two hours you could probably still not see all the detail worthy of being seen. Luckily, this is not one of the over the type variety with excessive gilt overwhelming everything. It is lovely, tasteful and interesting and as always a necessary part of your itinerary. As our time was limited and this was our second visit here, we felt obliged to cut it down to maybe a twenty minute stop, but I would spend more time, if it’s your first visit. Pair it with the phenomenal Santa Chiara cloister, catty corner from here. It’s a great one-two punch.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 21, 2023
- evonwise17Windsor, United Kingdom220 contributionsOrnate and imposingA beautiful ornate church (outside and inside). The chaple dedicated to Giuseppe Moscati with some explanation of his history and connection to the church) was very interesting, as were the various statues and chapels. There was a particularly ornate chapel to the left of the altar which has multiple saint’s head carvings lining the walls. Beautiful and serene following the frenetic energy of Naples!Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 30, 2023
- TommoMelbourne, Australia56,881 contributionsAmazing Church with small pyramids covering the facadeWe visited the Gesù Nuovo (the 'New Jesus') church during our walkling tour of Naples. It was a 15th-century palace built in 1470. This church was taken over by the Jesuits at the end of the 16th century, and it was completely rebuilt. Bombing in World War II caused extensive damage, as one of the bombs went through the ceiling without detonating. The bomb is still in the church today. The facade features small pyramids, a style mainly used in the Venetian Renaissance. It a church worth visiting and spending some time inside viewing the amazing baroque interior.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 23, 2024
- Michael KSan Jose, California1,144 contributionsA beautiful church for baroque loversThis is the best church in Naples. It has a strange looking exterior with a wall that seems to be covered in acoustic pyramid foam. The inside is simply gorgeous beyond words especially if you like baroque design. Not only is the main altar stunning, but each of the side chapels along the left and the right side of the church is equally splendid. It is a feast for the eyes.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 26, 2024

Quiet and peaceful, people seem to drift in and out as needed. If you want some quiet time away from the noose and bustle of Napoli streets it's a great place to spend some time in quiet prayer.
Highly decorative paintings, fixtures, symbols and statues with specific grottos for individuals attention.
Central Alter is very ornate
The crucifix is almost not visible a pity when this is the centre and part of the reason for a Church building.

Interior of an exaggerated richness, yet not unpleasant to the eye, indeed absolutely, wonderfully harmonious. The external facade, with its ashlar and stones engraved in a mysterious alphabet, already gives a notable beauty to one of the most beautiful squares in Naples. The interior, however, really takes your breath away, and is more than recommended. Pay attention to the opening hours.

This church is considered one of the most important and one of the most beautiful churches in Naples. It has a very plain facade but inside has many beautiful paintings and frescoes especially on the ceiling. The alter is decorated in gold and marble. It is open from 9AM to 12:30PM and 5-7:30PM. Entry is free and it is definitely a must visit.

Entry is free, so I take my hat off. I liked this church a lot, it is the protector of the pedestrian.
The Gesù Nuovo is better than the old one, I always cross myself for him. They are not going to look at the ground, the exciting thing is to look up. The ceiling is a spectacular work, I pity the worker who had to tile it.
Touring this sacred place has finally left me relaxed. It's certainly exciting, without cars passing you. Without vehicles nearby, it is a safe place to sit among art and breathe without rushing. The traffic in this city is crazy, thank goodness you can breathe holiness here.

Wow, we almost missed this amazing church because it was covered in building work. An absolute must see. Incredible decorations and painted ceilings and painted walls. One of the most beautiful churches in Naples.

A beautyful church located close to Santa Chiara cloister at the historical center of Naples. Very impressive front exterior followed by a more interesting interior. It will complete your tour of historical Naples.

Dopo tanto barocco dove posso trovare una chiesa rinascimentale nei paraggi?

did you use a tour /guide for your visit?
if so...do you recommend a guided tour or can one do the reading and self-guide?
Written March 24, 2019
I have not seen guides. The challenge in Italy is the language. The texts under the exhibits are very often in Italian. I suggest you will buy good guide books and study the venue by googling before.

Monday through Saturday the Church is open 7:30 to 12:45 PM/ and 4:00 PM to 8 PM. Sunday it is open 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9 PM. Of course, it is better to arrive a little later than opening hours and arrive with sufficient time to view the church before closing times. Masses during week days are 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12 and 4:30; Sundays 8:30, 10:00, 11:40, 1:00 and 4:30 and 8:00 PM. Some these services are limited to a small chapel rather than the whole church (such as the 10:30 mass). I have been there during the 10:30 mass and had access to the principal part of the church, but it is always better to try to visit when there is no mass in progress. Also, the light, in my opinion, is better in the mornings than in the afternoon.
