About
Pausilypon was the Villa d’otium build by roman knight Publio Vedio Pollio. When Pollio died (15 b.C.) it was given in legacy to the emperor Augustus, becoming an official imperial estate. It is located in one of the most fascinating places in Naples with a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. The gateway to the villa was given by the monumental Seiano’s cave (a tunnel 770 meters long caved in the hillside of Posillipo).

- Connector399083195402 contributionsAn unforgettable Valentine's DayWe spent a very pleasant Valentine's Day afternoon following a route that took us through the Seiano cave to the splendid Pausilypon park. Elena, our guide, was very competent, kind and nice. At the end of the visit we were able to admire a breathtaking view and a suggestive sunset. An unforgettable experience that we highly recommend.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 14, 2024

- Gabriele L1 contributionUNIQUEit was a beautiful experience, full of culture and knowledge, spectacular place full of history and curiosity, with a breathtaking view. All this crowned by the guide, Teresa, who was able with simple words to tell me the whole story of the park and its construction, as well as transmitting to me all her passion, dedication and skill for art and archaeology. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 4, 2024
- Jasper V1 contributionAn underrated, cheap recommendation for something fast, fun and educational in Naples. It's beautiful and very, very impressive. It is hugely underrated and very cheap! It is a non-profit and is maintained by volunteers. The tour is only 7 euros and the tour Guide can also speak good English and is very friendly. You get to know a lot about how it was built, its history and therefore a whole new picture of the Romans in Naples. Highly recommended!Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 12, 2024

- Andrea849 contributionsSuggestive placeImpressive place, from the cave of Seiano to the park. The park can be visited free of charge in the morning at 9.20 am upon Reservation on site or for a fee with a guided tour. The free visit lasts about 1 hour (about 15 minutes to make the outward and return cave is a half hour stay at the archaeological site). The amphitheater is not very large and is kept quite well. Beautiful view of the sea. Really quite a walk.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 26, 2024
- Francesco M1 contributionExperience not to be missedA lovely place with stunning views and knowledgeable and helpful Guide. It starts from the cd. Gallery of Seiano to get to some rooms of the Villa, including the theater and the odeion. From there you can see the incredible panorama with Nisida, Miseno, Procida and Ischia. Highly Recommendation!Visited September 2024Traveled soloWritten September 10, 2024

This is a spectacular site. There is tunnel, half a mile long, dug by the slaves of a rich Roman (an impressive engineering feat) that takes you to a site with the rich guy's (Pollio was his name) villa. The gentleman had a private open-air theatre seating 2,000 people, a smaller one where you could see the stage without leaving the comfort of your bedroom, and a good portion of the villa itself. The viwews are spectacular, you can see Pozzuoli on one side and the Vesuvius on the other. The guide, Stefania, was outstanding. Not only she is extremely knowledgeable, but she is also very good at explaininng things at a level that non-specialists like me can understand. I highly recommend a visit. I was there in the morning, but I think that visiting at sunset time must be amazing, as you can see the sun set over Ischia.

excursion made with friends in mid-September 2023. We crossed the Seiano Tunnel about 800 meters long and then admired the remains of the Roman Villa of Pollione directly on the Trentaremi bay. Excellent excursion, the guide, Miss Ilaria, was very good, engaging and motivated, she was able to gather the attention of the whole group by explaining with passion and in great detail. Recommended experience!!

Very impressive long tunnel, recently restored and made safe (Roman originally, renovated by the Bourbon rulers of Naples) giving access to a small part of the domain of a wealthy Roman in the time of Augustus with heavily restored theatre and odeon and the ruin of a Bourbon period palazzo. Good views over the Bay of Naples. Take the frequent train from Montesanto to Bagnoli and walk the 30 mins along Via Coroglio to the entrance. Guided tours (in Italian only; fee payable) and unguided but accompanied visits (free) reserved online (compulsory). Timings (on website) at 9.15 and 11.00.

Little known archaeological site but definitely worth a visit. Interesting tunnel dug by the Romans in the tuff, a tunnel of almost a kilometer that leads to the remains of the Imperial Villa of Pollione. In reality nothing remains of the Villa itself (understood as a house) but the monuments of the public part remain, namely the theater and the odeon. The landscape and the environment are very suggestive and the cooperative that manages the place tries with all its meager strength to enhance the site, maintain it in its integrity even naturalistic, instill in visitors the enthusiasm of which the guides are full. Of course, arriving from Naples by public transport is truly a journey of hope: metro, bus, train, stairs, get acquainted with the complex rates of Neapolitan haulage. But the visit is definitely worth all the effort and effort. If you have a means are 20-30 minutes from Naples with a stop in the immediate vicinity. If you are in Naples or are in Naples do not miss this site.

Park perhaps little known, but really interesting starting from the Roman-Bourbon tunnel of 700m that you walk. Beautiful landscape, very prepared guide. Advice! It's by reservation only, so it must be done in advance or you risk not to enter

Thanks to Giovanni's competent and passionate guide, we were able to appreciate this little-known corner of the city of Naples.
The majestic tunnel built by the Romans, rediscovered and restored by Ferdinand of Bourbon, used as a refuge during the Second World War, leads to a Roman imperial villa, overlooking a breathtaking panorama.
Highly recommended!

Well organized and structured guided tour. The guide is very competent and explains in great detail everything about this corner of paradise which, in addition to enchanting the eyes, preserves an incredible past. Perhaps a little more time would be needed to wander freely around the area in order to enjoy the view in peace. We hope for a future reopening of the holm oak grove. NB: It is advisable to book well in advance for weekend visits and to park at the beginning of the hairpin bends of Discesa Coroglio (white and blue lines and free dirt parking) and then go back up to the entrance of the Cave via two flights of steps .

Firstly excellent customer service re: booking tix. I booked the tickets online for the 3pm tour for myself and my boyfriend. I emailed ahead because although I study Italian my boyfriend only speaks English, I recieved a speedy response saying that it wasn't a problem and the guide would translate. The place is a little out of Naples but easily reached by the R7 bus or the Metro to Bagnoli and a 1.5mile walk.
We arrived in time and after checking tickets and green passes our guide Ilaria set off into the tunnel.
Ilaria spoke Italian in a very clear accent and slow enough that I understood almost every word. She then translated into English for the benefit of my boyfriend. The tunnel is a masterpiece in construction (even if the Romans didn't meet in the middle). There's a great view of the islands and the history is very interesting. This was definitely one of our best tours in Naples and I would highly recommend.

Very nice visit to do. Very interesting and beautiful. A magnificent view at the end of the tour.
Guide was great, we had to take the tour in Italian, despite being French. The Guide was great with us, she took the time to translate us the most important or what we had not understood. We thank her again for allowing us to fully enjoy this visit thanks to this translation.

Per le visite gratuite, dovresti contattare il Parco, sicuramente sul web troverai i contatti telefonici. Non penso che ci siano parcheggi del Parco, ma nelle vicinanze, ci sono dei piazzali dove si può lasciare l'auto.

Trip advisor won't let me post a link so google baiasommersa and it'll come up. It's in Italian not English.

We are coming from Rome to Naples by train 9:30 AM, going to Pozzuli first, then Baia. How would we get to Pausilypon from Baia? Is there a train, a bus, can we walk? Would anything still be open at 16:00 on a Saturday? Is there anything we could see? We have to be back in Naples for a 20:00 train back to Rome. thanks
