- SilannaLondonEngland, United Kingdom18 contributionsPretty impressivePopped in here as had some time to kill before flight in the evening. Rooms and art were amazing to see, felt like there was more to view but couldn’t work it out. Not bad entry fee at €11 per adult either. Shame we could t walk out onto the roof garden that overlooked the bay, must have been closed as off seasonVisited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 21, 2023
- p c257 contributionsWorth a visit if you enjoy history and artThis location is easy to explore by yourself (signage in Italian and English) and may contain additional exhibitions as well as access to the standard sights. There was no ticket queue. On this visit there was an interesting exhibition on JRR Tolkien (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit etc) and also on the opera singer, Enrico Caruso, who was born in Naples. Both were worth seeing. The main area inside the palace are the Royal Apartments, some rooms of which are undergoing restoration. Access is via an impressive marble staircase and there is a one way viewing system - though nothing stopping you going around several times, should you wish. There are also a library, gardens (with seats if you need a rest) and stables to see.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 11, 2024
- Michael KSan Jose, California1,144 contributionsWonderful palace located near ferry terminal & cruise terminalThis is an impressive palace located conveniently near the ferry terminal. The outside is unassuming, but as soon as you enter, you are greeated by the awe inspiring grand staircase which leads to the second floor on both sides. The first room to be explored is the breath taking palace theatre followed by countless number of huge state rooms. Along the way you can get a glimpe of the Hanging Garden which was not open when we visited. On the way out don't miss the royal chapel and an elaborate nativity scene.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 26, 2024
- butterflydiva7Wexford, Ireland588 contributionsStunning rooms and buildingA stunning building architecturally even before you enter. Once inside you have access to many rooms with beautiful furniture, paintings, ornaments and fabulous doors. The staircase is also stunning. They also have a private theatre in the palace. You have time at your leisure to wander around as it's not all guided tours. Well worth a visit.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 30, 2024
- MidwestKathMDetroit, Michigan1,128 contributionsAn interesting look at Naples' royal past! This palace is somewhat unassuming on the outside, at least when compared to the inside! Lots of windows on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Along the ground floor are niches housed with a series of statues of the rulers of Naples since the 12th century. We entered through the main arch into a courtyard and then into the palace proper. The grand staircase is indeed sumptuous in its white marble! Look up at the ceiling. Check out the marbling of the walls. We spent about an hour walking through some 20 rooms, through the Throne Room, the Royal Apartments, and more, most adorned in gold! Each room has its own highlight, whether a ceiling, mural, wallpaper, molding, chandelier, painting, furnishings, or floor. It was an interesting walk through a grand past life of Napoli!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 23, 2024

The Royal Palace of the kingdom of Naples, built in 1733 by the Bourbon King Charles of France, was somewhat nondescript from the outside, but amazing inside. It was built near the port, in case the king fell out of favor and had to make a quick escape. Entrance is normally 10 euros, but they do give senior discounts, so we only had to pay 7. The entrance staircase was magnificent—reminded us of the one in St. Petersburg, but all white. Upstairs we started with the king’s rooms—many audience chambers. Guests moved from one chamber to the next, each one getting closer to the throne room. Your importance was determined by how close to the throne room you were actually allowed to go. Usually only one person from the group would actually get to see the king. The other side of the palace contained the queen’s rooms—similar configuration. There was also a huge ballroom, a beautifully appointed theatre, and a magnificent chapel. All rooms were beautifully decorated—mostly in gold and reds, with lots of beautiful artwork and amazing ceilings, but little furniture. The palace was built for the Bourbon kings and had rooms that reflected 16th-18th-century decorations, depending upon which king had occupied them. Definitely worth a visit to get a feel for the place of Bourbon kings in the history of Naples.

For the price of €2 (reduction for EU citizens under 24) everything is included except the hanging gardens. I had already been there but this time I dedicated more time and attention to it. The interiors of the building are beautiful and the descriptions of almost every work and room are very useful. The stairs at the entrance are beautiful. We went to the exhibition on Tolkien, which was very interesting and well done (don't expect much on the works because it is mainly an exhibition on his life and profession). The exhibition on Caruso is beautiful, if you want you can also do it with the interactive audio guide (change tracks as you move). Some bugs should be fixed (the guide tracks didn't start from 00:00 but from 3:00 so you had to listen to the end first and then start them again). I recommend installing a similar audio guide in the other exhibitions and perhaps even in the rooms. It's a shame that the time tunnel was closed: we only discovered it out front after having had a nice walk in the sun, no one at the entrance had told us and there were no signs to warn us.

We reserved a time slot to go inside the place (it's free to go in the gardens but they are not spectacular) didn't ask for reservations but just paid our 6 euro each to go round. Was a information stand in each room in english and italian telling you about the room. Very grand, we enjoyed it

Palazzo Reale di Napoli (Royal Palace of Naples) completed in 1858 was the home of Spanish viceroys for 150+ years during the Bourbon dynasty. It is located in Piazza del Plebiscito, not far from the port. Today it is used in a museum role, houses the Royal apartments and is the seat of the national library. On the day, I went there was a tour group ahead of me so I decided to skip it, satisfying myself with the great statues outside and the history of the inside.

Not much of like glamour & splendor from its outward appearance given the location of the Palace pretty much right at the "downtown core" of the city (unlike some palaces of Europe also visited which are on their own huge grounds and like on the outskirts of cities), I would just say that I was "pleasantly surprised" once inside this palace to get to go through its "quite resplendent" rooms (with paintings, tapestries, sculptures & also "gold glitters" on some ceilings) although yes I had been similarly surprised by the interiors of two prior palaces also in "downtown settings" namely the Royal Castle in Warsaw & the Residenz in Munich (but this one I would say somewhat on a "lesser scale" in general decorations than those two); and also "kind of unique" about this palace (not seen among the rooms of any other palace) is its "theater room" with a pretty good space & a nice-sized stage (although not quite a full-sized theater room with upper galleries & such). But yes, above all else seen at this palace, I was most impressed by its "grand staircase" with its impressive width branching out to two sides from like a sizeable landing in the middle and where there are also nice-sized statues mounted on the walls alongside (just inside the entrance to go up to the 2nd floor which is where to begin the palace tour).
Located on one side of the city's "main square" Piazza del Plebiscito, directly across the square from this palace is the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola (with a nice exterior view of the front pillars & the dome of that church although with a "pretty empty" interior); and yes right around the square are these crowded "pedestrian streets" lined with many shops & outdoor vendors (and with likely one of those streets leading to the Castel Nuovo on the waterfront nearby but which I didn't have time for visit being a little late in the day).

We went on a very rainy day. I have given this 4 out of 5 purely on the basis that it has got a wow factor when you are inside.
Although it is huge there isn’t a great deal to look at and we did the tour in around an hour.
There were hardly any visitors when we went which was good but the gardens were shut due to weather I can only presume.
Staff were not great or overly helpful which I have kind of come to expect in Naples.
Information is lacking so I would recommend a tour guide if you can get one.
Worth going and worth the price.

Definitely high price for what you see, you do not even understand where the ticket office is, non-existent directions, cards on the horrendous rooms, unqualified staff
The chapel nom can be visited, the roof garden to be paid separately, the carriage room open after 14. The most graceful cisa the museum dedicated to the great Caruso

As a Neapolitan I would like to point out that in Naples there is no place that is a must visit!
The Royal Palace is wonderful, the atmosphere it offers is unique and I really recommend visiting it.
You pay €10 to enter for adults and if you add €2 you can also visit the wonderful hanging garden (which I highly recommend seeing for its beauty and the view of Naples that it gives you!) while access to the romantic garden is completely free.
Left some photos so you can realize the beauty.
And did you know that the palace staircase inspired the Cinderella story? Well I've intrigued you... so all you have to do is find out more and visit it!!

This is not one of the great palaces of the world. In fact the king didn't iike it so much that he built a better one at Caserta. Having said that, the interior grand staircase is very impressive, and some of the rooms are beautifully overstuffed, and gives the illusion that the palace was used over a long period of time. This building is a nice diversion for about an hour.

Visited yesterday afternoon with my partner and our 3 year old daughter... entrance ticket 11 euros per person and my family free... it's a nice visit that I recommend everyone do... there is a lot of history in Naples and its ' Italy to see... very large paintings also from the 17th and 18th centuries... original objects and furnishings that belonged to kings etc etc... I'm sorry that we couldn't visit the gardens which are currently suspended due to the high temperatures. ..they should resume as soon as possible... I recommend going during the week and in the morning because there are some things that we couldn't do precisely due to the fact that some only open in the morning and some are not feasible on the weekend.. .some of them are free and others included in the ticket...kind and helpful two men who were in the throne room who also joked with us and our daughter and answered some questions we asked about the throne etc etc... we will return

What is the best way to get to the palazzo from the port. We are sailing in on a cruise ship. Last time I was here I sorted out a tour at the port, can this still be done!
