Fantastic castle. Bought to life by the English tour guide. Would definitely recommend the additional 10 euros for the tour. The tour allows VIP access to areas you cannot get to with the standard entry. Make sure you book you time slot in advance. Parts we liked were the surprise under the floor and seeing the crocodile pit.

Nice Castle to visit in the middle of Napoli. Just the administration (again ...) is a little complicated. Entrance tickets can be booked only online - the tour inside with the guide can be booked only inside the castle and to be paid by cash... this gives you the opportunity to see the museum, the castle and the tour will allow you to go on the top on the stairs which are about 6 floors (even though we saw that the elevator was functioning well). The tour is highly recommended and our guide was great!

This imposing structure is worth the look. You can pay for either self-guided tours or guided tours. I went with guided to better understand the history of this as well as gaining access to part the self-guided don't see. Fascinating to see the archaeology under the castle grounds, complete with skeletons. There is a museum section with displays brought in that have nothing to do with the castle. There is another section with ancient art work.

I was born in Naples and I visited Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) multiple times. They now offer a tour for €10 which includes a guided tour. In this tour we saw: the castle museum, the Roman ruins below the castle, the secret passageway, the throne room, the terrace at the top of the castle, the prisons. The tour is offered either in English or Italian. We took the Italian one and our guide Valeria was amazing. She gave us so much info but always kept the tour funny and interactive. As I visited the castle many times as a kid or a teenager, but the way the tour is organized today makes it so much better. Definitely something to have on your list when visiting Naples.

Being a fan of castles, I was quite excited by the presence of a medieval castle right in the heart of Naples. The castle’s exterior structure, with its eye-catching 5 cylindrical towers, is certainly impressive. But my joy was short-lived as we entered the castle after paying a total of €11 comprising entry and guided tour fees (discounted from €16 as the guided tour in English was cancelled and we have to follow an Italian guide). Notwithstanding that I did not understand the tour guide, the atmosphere in the internal courtyard was filled with loud music and emceeing from a kids event being held there, which certainly took away the novelty of my visit. We were brought to the Palatine Chapel, Throne Room and top of the rampart for views of the surrounding Port of Naples, and self-explored the underground prison and the Armoury Hall to see the Roman ruins under the glass floor. Overall, I was expecting to see more of the preserved interiors of the castle, so what I got to see was definitely underwhelming.

This is a medieval castle located in front of Piazza Municipio and the city hall in central Naples. It is also known as Maschio Angioino. The port is also nearby. We started our Amalfi tour from the port and noticed this imposing castle in a scenic location. This castle was first erected in 1279, so of historical significance.

You will notice the turrets of this imposing structure as you approach Naples by sea. It also looks good on all sides. But the inside was a disappointment. Most of the rooms are just empty. Up on the roof you can see Molo Beverello, the ferry terminal, and up on the hill, you can see Castel Sant'Elmo with San Martino Monastery and Musuem in front. The views are nice but not spectacular. At the time we visited there were construction work around the castle making it difficult to access the castle from certain areas.

Paid extra to do the guided tour which let us into some extra areas and that was very interesting. Able to wander around the castle unattended after that. Some areas closed off due to a stream of weddings being held there (saw 3 brides during the visit). Nice views over the city and out to sea from the upper floor. No cafe.

The Castel Nuovo is really interesting from an architectural, or structural, perspective. The fortification of this 13th century medieval royal residence for the kings of Naples, Aragon and Spain is amazing!! We spent about an hour here, arriving shortly after opening. Impressive entrance gate!! No map provided, so we were on our own to wander through the campus. We started with the Hall of the Barons with its impressive vaulted ceiling; today it is used for city council meetings and cultural events. We stopped in the Armoury Hall to see the Roman ruins under the glass floor. An art exhibition was installed on the glass floor, but it was too daunting for me to walk on it. Unfortunately, on the day of our visit, the Chapel was closed so we missed the historic frescoes ( some painted by Giotto!). We looked into the side chapel through its glass doors; some interesting paintings and statues there. Then up we went into the residential floors of the castel to see the collection of paintings and sculptures by Napoli artists from the 1600s to the early 1900s. There were some interesting pieces, but some galleries had such low light that we couldn't see everything. We did enjoy the outdoor portions of those upper floors. Since the Castel is situated on the waterfront, there are good views of the harbor.

Weirdly children under 18 are free at the door for the basic look around the courtyard and small art gallery but if you want the tour guide (which you need to pay for if you want to see anything else in the castle, including top floor), children over 12 have to pay the same 10€ as adults which seems inconsistent. The tour guide was informative and engaging and you’re left to go to the top of the castle independently at the end of the tour. Only reason I paid for the tour was for the view from the top of the castle but it honestly isn’t overly impressive. 26€ for an adult and child seems steep, we were in and out in less than an hour.
