Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

Underneath this majestic church there is a labyrinth of conduits, slippery pathways, and gloomy tunnels. These catacombs make for an interesting excursion into the dark history of Naples. I took a bilingual tour, which was informative, and the guide gabbled through his Italian spiel with great gusto and when he spoke in English he was eloquent, inspiring, and dramatic. He... More

These catacombs date back to Roman and early Christian times and are a fascinating place to visit. On entering there is an immediate sense of calm and serenity in the vast open areas of the tunnels. Of note are the early Christian frescos, altars and baptismal font. The tour was conducted by a young Italian guide who spoke excellent English.... More

This was our first Naples underground experience, so I can't compare it with the others. We loved it, though. It was amazing to see the different forms of graves and the remains of the three places of worship from around 200 to 600 A.D., and the tour guide did a wonderful job. From the Capodimonte museum, it's a five-minute taxi... More

you probably know already - this is underground remains of old Naples. Very extensive, the overview is the most useful but detail is not sufficiently highlighted by the signs. Possible to get lost, if you're not with a tour you can always ask a tour guide how to get out! Nice place to cool down on a hot summer day.

In the northern part of Naples, Sanita district, lies a labyrinth of catacombs which local youth offer guided tours for. The catacombs themselves, and their history, is a must if one is interested in understanding Naples. In addition, the initiative to open up these spaces for foreigners has been taken up by the locals and should be well appreciated!

One of the random excursions we picked before going to Naples which also included a pizza. Not really knowing what to expect. We had a guided tour of all the underground passages under Naples. Very informative and good fun especially when we took one of the small passageways which was pitch black and only a candle to guide us. (Probably... More

These catacombs are unlike any we had seen before. Bigger older with an interesting story and a good guide. We took the hop on hop off bus, jumped off at the top of the hill at the museum and then walked down the steps to the church and the catacombs entrance. We then left through the hospital as directed at... More

An impressive sight with a long history. Hourly guided tours in Italian or English. You might expect this place to be completely overcrowded. Well, in November early afternoon exactly three tourists showed up to see this magic place.

A fascinating tour of these extensive and beautifully preserved burial chambers dating back to 200 A.D. The presentation was appropriately detailed in good English and covered both levels of the burial chambers, which were beautifully lit. We all felt as if we had travelled back in time. the tour lasted just under an hour and the tickets enabled 20% discounts... More

You can only access the catacombs via a tour but very well with it for €8. The guide speaks excellent English and is very knowledgable.
