When we arrived we were informed we could only access a ticket online, to start with the website is rubbish and you actually are only obtaining a QR code to buy the tickets, we were greeted by a really nice guy who explained what you could see in the castle. We then found out the ticket price is misleading online as there is one rate for just going into the museum and an additional €10 to see the rest of the castle.
The initial €6 had to be paid by card and the extra €10 in cash 🙄.
We were given a time to come back to the forecourt to have the guided tour of the castle, we thought great!
When up to the museum and immediately got insulted in Italian by the man checking tickets 😡
We then went to the forecourt and waited for our tour to start, a nice lady took our tour for the English speaking. We followed her to the room with glass floor and thought there would be some sort of background given but nothing… we then went to the dungeon and again nothing… we went to the throne room and had to ask what we were seeing she then left us to go up the 4 flights of stairs to the roof where you can’t see the view of The bay of Naples at all.
We left feeling that we had been misled to buy the tickets for the whole tour.

You will need to book a slot online to gain entry to the Castle dell'Ovo, as you can no longer walk in from the street.
Your temperature is checked on entry and as the castle is mainly open spaces, with views of surrounding Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
You need just under an hour for your visit as there are no internal rooms to view.

Despite the beautiful location and the wealth of history inside, I had the feeling of being abandoned as soon as I crossed the threshold. Not only is it not possible to take a guided tour, but there is not even an audio guide and, once inside, only a few explanatory signs scattered here and there. I strongly suggest to equip yourself with an external guided tour. It's a shame that such a diamond is treated like coal.

Can’t actually comment on the castle because we didn’t make it in. Stopped on the way in by some people suggesting they worked there and told that you can only access the castle for free if you make an online reservation, which you can’t do. However if you pay them 10 euro you have a guided tour. Just felt really uncomfortable, left in the end.

The walk to the Castle is lovely as you walk along the beach front and get to see quite a different part of Naples.
The street vendors who are selling along there did not call our asking us to purchase from them.
Once you get to the Castle you get the most wonderful views of parts of Naples. You can walk around the castle but not get into any of the inner parts. There was one room being used for an art exhibition when we were visiting, entry to this was also free and it was a good way to see one of the inner rooms of the castle.

We were greeted by a pleasant young lady who was able to speak to us in English. She explained we could book a free e-ticket or pay €10 per person for a guided tour in English and Italian. We chose to pay and were taken into the castle where we paid and joined a tour straightaway. Our guide Nicoli was great. He explained everything about the history of the castle in English. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would recommend.

Well worth a visit. You have to book a time slot on the website but this is easy. Surprisingly the entrance is free but you can pay 10 euro for a 45 min guided tour which we took. You get to see extra parts of the castle and learn a lot more about its history. Not sure it was worth the extra but it was interesting.

Nothing awesome. It is pretty from outside but 6€ compared to all the other city’s attractions are too much. You just pay for it cause it’s well known but nothing that good. If you want to go upstairs and see the view you have to pay an extra 10€

The castle was a really unique experience, each section having been built up at a different time either as a monestary, fortress, or bomb shelter. The guided tours are definitely worth it at £10, you get to see a lot more of the parts of the castle and you support the team who maintains the castle now the government has stopped funding the project.
Going through the little tunnels monks carved through the walls was a real highlight only available through the tour!

They say about fiction writing: show don't tell. That is also true for this historical site. There is lots of interesting and impressive history worth preserving and presenting to visitors, both for the purposes of education, pride, and Italian national community.
There are several wonderful and informative and not lengthy written placards (in both Italian and English) with maps throughout that are used to help visitors understand the layout and history; unfortunately, there is very little to see within the complex of what is described on these placards, and many parts of the castel are closed off.
Certainly worth a visit for views of Naples and the Gulf of Naples, but if you want more from your experience, please stop and read the information provided; otherwise, the visit may be a big disappointment.

È fattibile visitare con un passeggino?
Written October 9, 2020

Mi potete dire come posso arrivare a Castel dell’Ovo usando i mezzi pubblici? Metro, pullman ecc. Grazie a chi risponderà.

GentilissimaGiulua,
