About
The «Art Stations» along Line 1 of the underground in Naples, managed by ANM Azienda Napoletana Mobilità, the public transport company, are the result of a project by the municipal administration in Naples. They have inaugurated a new way of devising transit areas which combines architecture and art. The architectures were designed by internationally famous architects, each station has its own stylistic features and was designed specifically for the area it would serve. At the same time, under the artistic coordination by Achille Bonito Oliva, 200 site specific works of art by 90 protagonists of contemporary art have been placed inside and outside the stations.

The main metro line of Naples. Terrible service - the old carriages that look like a sauna on the tracks, there is not a breath of air inside, no air conditioning. The line doesn't work, there is no Wi-Fi, the trains often arrive late, sometimes the journeys are suspended. Stations not suitable for disabled people - lifts and escalators don't work half the time

Everyone is raving about the Toledo station. The "art" is in the form of a chimney-like vent that was painted blue on the inside and opened up to the sky. It is visible only when you ride the escalator. I was not impressed. Other stations I have visited include Museo, Dante, Municipio, and Garibaldi. They all look ordinary to me.

Clean and large tunnels, individual art at each metro station worth seeing if your using it to get around. Very simple to use and clear directions. Only €1.10 for a 90 minute ticket. Used the metro so much during my stay in Naples as it was so easy, trains every 9 mins and a quicker way to get around

Visiting Toledo station on line 1 is a must. The mosaic and lights are an absolute delight and it’s worth taking the underground just to see it.

I am a retired art curator now living in Italy (Umbria) and on my recent trip to Napoli I knew that I would not only need to use the Metro... but so much wanted to get to know it, its art. I know that I am not the typical traveler so my enthusiasm is not shared by all... but seriously, if some of the metro stops, especially Toledo, and if you also go outside of the Salvator Rosa stop, do not at least grab your attention... then I am not sure what will!! The Robert Wilson work at the Toledo stop is by far everyone's favorite, though for me the William Kentridge work also at that stop is fantastic... please make the time to see as much as you can... it is all so very much worth it!!

Every metro/subway is in the process of dialogue with the city above it.
Napoli is a complicated city, full of history, art, architecture, geography, anarchy, science, religion. Linea Uno 1 is a version of the City, understanding.
You can walk through the stations and see art. Good art.
Or spend a lot of time going down and up, walking and standing, watching and listening. City and metro. Have long coffee breaks.
I suggest to visit here alone, not in the group. And if you have company, please be quiet. Listening, not only watching.

Why can't all train stations be like that? It doesn't matter what you think of art, at least this kind of art, this is something that is out of the ordinary and makes everyday travel a joy and fun! Most train stations we have been through are rather dreary, ordinary places. This Metro Art is exceptional by comparison!

For 1€50 you can go back and forth and see wonderful structures and design in the Metropolitana - go always all the way up and simply turn back down before the pay-gate

The Naples metro system is a pleasure to ride -- inexpensive and efficient, and the several Linea 1 "art" stations are really impressive. Each one is unique, very colorful, and filled with sculptures, mosaics and other design elements.
