    Nice shopping arcade
An impressive building, quite centrally located near the Plaza del Plebiscito (which is really dirty and full of grafiti) . Don't forget to look at the mosaics on the floor. The galleria has a few very nice shops, but more and more souvenir shops and cheap restaurants have found their way here.

    Lovely architecture but………
The architecture of Galleria Umberto I bears uncanny resemblance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, which is not surprising given that both arcades were constructed around the late 19th century. Located across from the San Carlo opera house within a short walk from Piazza del Plebiscito, this cross -shaped structure surmounted by a huge glass dome at the centre is majestically impressive, but no similar superlatives can be said of the range of shops tenanting this shopping arcade. Unlike its Milan cousin who fills the arcade with luxury branded shop, the shops here are much to be desired and some have even closed for business. Good only for a quick stopover to admire the building and snap a few photos.

    Stunning architecture
Stunning building but that's about it. I was very early here before it had been cleaned up from the night before. Rubbish everywhere, urine smell, homeless people sleeping rough. By the time the high class shops were opening the place had been cleaned - you would not have known.

Galleria Umberto I is a public shopping gallery in Naples
Galleria Umberto I is a public shopping gallery in Naples, southern Italy. It is located directly across from the San Carlo opera house. Beautiful historic space in the heart of old Naples!
Having heard that we should see this galleria, we stopped in one evening to check it out, and came back again during the day. Built in the 1890s, it is impressive....long halls, huge glass dome, beautiful mosaic floor, stunning details from floor to ceiling. It was built as a public space for shopping, restaurants, businesses, with some residential above. On both visits, there were lots of people inside, mostly milling about, eating at the restaurants. As a historic space, it's worth checking out.

This is not really a shopping mall for shopping. Go there to be amazed by the architecture, the mosaics, the incredible glass-domed ceiling (which may remind you of the Milan shopping arcade), and the people-watching! Okay…you can also shop if you want to. If you are hungry, get in line at the famous La Sfogliatella bakery and have one of everything. We tried an amazing rum-soaked pastry filled with cannoli stuffing and chocolate chips and their signature Sfogliatella, a crispier pastry filled with cheesy/creamy filling. Both were winners!

Visited this mall by accident really as we exited the Funicular.

I am not person to offer views on the ‘shopping experience’ but this structure is worth a visit and many folks were taking picture just of the roof!

Obviously it’s a popular place with several coffee type bars out in the open.

Well worth a visit

Once a focus for fashionable Neapolitans, the handsome arcades of the Galleria Umberto I were built in 1887 and rebuilt after World War II. They face Italy’s largest and oldest opera house: the Teatro San Carlo.Built for Charles of Bourbon in
1737, and later rebuilt, its fine auditorium once aroused envy in the courts of Europe.

Best regards,

Unique gallery built by 1890 was named after King Umberto I and fashioned after Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It combines businesses, shops, cafés and apartments on upper floors. An UNESCO listing as part of the Historic Centre of Naples. The beautiful central 16 panelled glass dome and the side glass panels are shaped in the form of a cross. Ornate architecture, sculptures and original mosaics adorn the place. The light from the glass ceilings cast an impressive glow. The place is worth seeing even if time has seen it fade a little.

On my last trip to Italy, I visited the Galleria in Milan and was very impressed, so I didn't know that there was a Galleria in Naples either, so I was surprised when I found it. Although it is small in scale, this Galleria is also wonderful. I visited on the night of New Year's Day, so it was very crowded with people. I think it is one of the wonderful sights in Europe.

Galleria Umberto I in Naples, very large and beautiful to see, visited at Christmas time then is decorated from top to bottom. We didn't have high expectations despite never having visited it but once inside we were impressed by the vastness of the structure. The shop windows are very pretty and leave wonder in the eyes of passers-by, then the dome seen from below is wonderful to admire. All in all not being a “work” to admire is really well proposed (point in favor of the main entrance, from the outside it looked anything but the gallery for the assortment of decorations and statues.

This gallery is one of the most fantastic attractions in the city.
The eye is drawn everywhere when you walk inside.
Designer shops and refreshment points make it even more special.
And as soon as you exit in front you are dazzled by the marvelous architecture of the San Carlo Theatre!

This majestic gallery is the symbol of the city of Naples. Built at the end of the 19th century in honor of King Umberto I.
The dome and the vault in glass and iron are beautiful. The marble floor is also very impressive with mosaics depicting the signs of the zodiac and the winds. Inside there are shops and cafés, in the past during the Belle Époque period in the underground rooms of the gallery there was the very famous Salone Margherita, the first concert café in the city.
