About
Enchanting scenery that unfolds to the eyes of visitors, a secret place full of history and magic atmosphere. An emotional journey that conducts visitors in the new section of the underground of Naples. It is situated in Vico del Grottone 4, from to 150 mt. to Plebiscito Square. Until a few years ago it wasa veterinary laboratory, now is the entrance of the Bourbon Tunnel. A staircase with 8 ramps, 33 yards deep descending into the belly of Chiaia. The second entry is in Via Domenico Morelli,40, through the crosswalk of “Quick parking”.The Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of rebellion, he asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was uncompleted and, during the second World War, was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil. That’s way there are handwrite, folding beds, messages of wish and desolation of those who lived it and still maintains its memory. Along the tunnel thereare also the evidences, 530 meters, where visitors can discover the history of real life. Through the spacious streets, it’s easy reachable the network of tunnels and cisterns of seventeenth-century,large buildings, where worked the "pozzari", the only connoisseur of Naples underground. The show is stunning, but that's not finished. On Via Morelli appear statues dating back to fascist period and many cars and motorcycles, abandoned for years, freed from piles of rubbish, arranged and illuminated ad hoc for the route.Nothing is left to chance, even lighting, perfectly integrated with the path of the visitors.Since today everything is possible to visit. Five years ago the scenery was completely different.Rubbish, degradation, wastes of all kinds covered the reliquaries.

Very enjoyable and thoroughly interesting tour of this underground tunnel and complex. The guide in English was excellent and really entertaining, he took us from 500 years ago right up until the use of the tunnel in the 1960s. It was a challenge to find the entrance but that made it all the more interesting really as it's right in the middle of Naples near the port area.

A walk through Galleria Borbonica is an interesting view into how a space can have multiple histories. The tour is excellently organized and covers half a century of a place which, like the city (Naples) its located in, has had a multidimensional past.

No doubt, the experience was made even better by our very knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide, Rossella.

Highly recommended!

My wife and I booked the standard tour starting from Vico del Grottone on a Friday and happened to get a private tour as they didn't have any other visitors on the English tour. The guide spoke English very well and shared many interesting and emotional stories about the tunnels. She was also very open to answer any additional questions. The stories included details from the time when it was built, from when it was used to protect people during world war II as well as after the war when it was used by homeless people and as a parking lot. We can highly recommend this tour.

At first you go down under the surface with the guide that introduces you to the completely unknown world. The gallery goes back to the 16th century (the Borbon dynasty made it built for defency reasons) and it wasn't used for centuries. It was reopen only in 2005, after 35 years (!) of works to throw away tons of garbage that was inside! Some inhabitants of Naples found a refuge there during the WW2 American bombings and the volunteers reconstructed the way the populations lived there during the war. Very impressing and very interesting! Our guide Stefania is mostly recommended.
Remember to wear comfortable shoes before this visit.

We visited the Galleria Borbonica today and our tour guide Daniela was brilliant. She is a captivating story teller and gave a great glimpse into the history in the chambers.
We turned up at 11:50 knowing there was a tour at 12:00 as it wouldn’t let us book online. At first we couldn’t find the start of the tour eventually finding it at the end of a walkway in a car park (note the toilet facilities in the car park are disgusting!).
Would definitely recommend visiting this tour.

I really enjoyed this tour. The guide had plenty of information about the caves and the history as to how it got the way it is. In the current COVID pandemic, the tour may have been reduced to accommodate the restrictions. Despite this, the tour was excellent and I would highly recommend.

I’m 100% Napoletana. Every time I take my Irish partner to Napoli I see my city with through the traveller’s eyes and I fall even more in love with it!

Our visit to Galleria Borbonica was amazing! We chose the Adventure trail and it didn’t disappoint. The guide Gianluca was funny, knowledgeable and entertaining!

Definitely recommend you visit this and keep supporting this fantastic project!

Fascinating visit to this tunnel which has seen so many uses over hundreds of years, from an escape route for bourbon kings to air raid shelter during WW2. Very moving, and beautifully explained by our guide. Visits also available in English

Reasonable price for the amount of information you get. An hour long your underground Naples. We started off the piazza plebistco which involved a lot of steps down but then we existed at ground level. A unique attraction that I've never seen anywhere else, a must for a trip to Naples
