The Natural Arch is max 20 mins walk from Capri Centro through little side streets. As with any island, there are steep areas and steps to climb up and down so sensible footwear is recommended. Just before you reach the Arch there is a lovely restaurant where you can sit and have a drink and take in the view. We stopped here on the way back from the Arch for lemon sorbets. They also have good, clean toilets.
We were lucky as there were not too many visitors when we arrived so had the beauty spot to ourselves.

We did the entire circuit and took this in on the way. Few hours walking but totally worth it. Grab a large bottle of water in the restaurant close to the Natural Arch or a bite to eat. Photos don’t do it justice! Amazing!!!!

On an island full of natural wonders and amazing views this was one of my favourite spots. Depending on which way you come there are a lot of steps to either descend or ascend, however it’s more than worth the effort.
There is a nice bench to sit and admire the views. There is also a small restaurant close by.

This gem of a trail is only thirty minutes from the Funicular. This was our first trail we did. As a result, we feel in love with Capri.
You walk east from the Piazzetta on Via Roma, past Piazza Umberto until you come to a narrow alley, Via le Botteghe. The Botteghe alley turns into Via Croce. You veer right when you come to the alley, Via Matermania.
You will come across signs pointing to the “Arco Natural.” Going down a few steps you will come across the concrete platforms to view the Natural Arch.
There is no question that the view can take your breath away. We love the aquamarine colors below. This is a superb area to take your pictures.
You will walk back to a restaurant. It is near the restaurant that 300 steps will lead you down to Grotto Matermania. You have an option to walk back to Capri town or take the steps down to another beautiful trail which leads back to Capri town.
Just take you time if you decide to do the steps. There are no railings but plenty of vegetation on both sides. My wife, who fears heights, had no problem with either the arch or these steps.
You could take this trail from Via Pizzolungo, the opposite direction, but you are “walking up” three hundred steps. The better judgement is to walk near the Natural Arch entrance.
The use of the Grotto dates back thousands of years. Usually, there aren’t many people around. You feel like you are Indiana Jones who just found something mysterious.
Continuing the trail, you will see the home of “Villa Malaparte.” You wonder how they ever built that home out on the point, and how they get supplies. The villa was constructed back in the 1930’s and is regarded as one of the best examples of contemporary architecture or also known as “Italian Modern” style.
The famous Faraglione rocks will come to view. The smaller ships and boats actually go through the famous arch. Boat rides can be had at Marina Grande.
The trail continues back to Capri town. With the Grotto and the Arch, it did take well over an hour. The views, though, are spectacular.

Didn't think the arch is so spectacular... The whole track is what is worth it. Lots of steps - hard on your knees. Take good shoes.

We loved this "hike". It is more of a walk then an actual hike. But the views of the coast and the Arch are wonderful. Be prepared for lots of steps that take you down to the coast. But you must go back up too! Your thighs will remind you in the morning of this great hike. But it is definitely worth it. It takes a few hours but is a great way to spend the afternoon .

Once arriving in Capri I decided I was not here to shop ( there are many choices). We followed a travel guide that started a walk to the Natural Arch from town. It was up and down throughout the town but I felt we defiantly saw more of the real island. Once at the arch we had a lovely lunch at the restaurant there and saw we had an option to walk back to town, either down a set of stairs or the way we came. We asked at the restaurant and they said the stairs took an hour, as did the return via the town. What they didn't say is it was uphill and downhill, the stairs had no railings, were deep and long with nowhere to go once you started. It was a beautiful day, hot and sunny, the keyword here is hot once you are on the path.
The scenery was spectacular, but I would not recommend this walk for anyone who is not in moderate shape, and certainly not for anyone with any knee issues. We finished, and high fived, but a one hour trip took at least 2, with only one pity party about half way through.......

The Natural Arch was covered with scaffolding and stages due to restoration works and they are planning to save it from falling apart.
Don't be disappointed - enjoy the trek in nature. There is a route from the town of Capri (just follow the signs to the Natural Arch) and then at a small rustic restaurant (which was closed at the time we were there) the path divides into 2 paths - 1 to the Arch and 1 to the stairs leading down the slope.
After checking out how the restoration works of the Arch are going on, take the path down, you will get to the Grotta of Matromania (a cave which was a Nymphaeum during the Roman times), and when proceed further you will pass by Villa Malaprte and finally you will come to the Terrace of Tragara (a beautiful viewpoint).
This is the easy way - we walked the route in the opposite direction and had to climb thousands of steps in the steep slope. But we survived!

Hey I only gave 1-star to get your attention. This Natural Arch would be a fantastic thing to see except it was all covered with scaffold when I visited it. The arch itself is barely noticeable and you can't see down below the sea at all. So make sure you will have a clean view of the scenery if you decide to visit this older of nature because it is a bit of a hike from the town center.

This walk is nothing short of spectacular. We walked the Via Tragara/Pizzolungo route from Capri to the Natural Arch, which involved 700 steps uphill, so you would be wise to take is slowly if you are not fit and take a bottle or two of water. Early in the walk you will have a view of I Faraglioni, then you will walk along the coast and see I Faraglioni from a different angle and also see a long stretch of the Amalfi Coast. The cliffs are smothered in Euphorbia and cystis, or rock rose and many other plants. We travelled in early May and the Euphorbia ranged from bright lime green to vivid orange and the rock rose was bright pink. There were many large sea gulls cruising on the wing currents. After a while the path is overhung by foliage and becomes cool and dim and you will see the sea framed by leave and branches.
After a strenuous climb, you will come to the Grotto Matermania, which still contains fragments of the Ancient Roman brick used for a shrine. After another walk uphill you will come to a restaurant, (closed on Tuesday, we learnt to our disappointment) which is apparently very good, then another short walk to the Natural Arch, which was partially covered in scaffolding (May 2015).
We walked back via Via Matermania, which is an easy walk past Capri homes and then past shops.
The walk was one I will always remember because it was so beautiful and so varied in its natural and man made wonders.

I only have a few hours in Capri, is the hike a "must see" thing to do ? What suggestions do you have for a first timer to Capri? I am doing a boat tour around island first.
