The Certosa is very beautiful, close to the square is worth visiting. Restoration works are underway, but what you can visit deserves the price of the ticket. I would have paid even more to contribute to the work that is being done, considering that in Capri everything has an out of the norm cost. I also recommend the walk in the avenue of lime trees that comes to enjoy a spectacular view!

We paid €7 each, a beautiful environment with lots of potential. The prior's garden and the plant species deserve a very different condition. Senior over 65 discount denied based on ridiculous deductions by ticket collector. Being told that it is the EU's "fault" as the imposition of free visits during the first week of the month, not even Salvini can afford. Everyone who worked for the opening of the Charterhouse should know about these a la carte "interpretations" by those without qualifications. The decree establishing a supplement of €1 is only Italian.
Overall very nice, it suffers from competition with the more well-known tourist products linked to views and gardens.

Monastery with German art exhibit. A handful of large sparse rooms with a good selection of large canvases featuring bleak but somewhat romantic views of religious scenes and landscapes. Highlight is the imposing church and beautiful wall and ceiling art. Two courtyards to walk about too. One big and one small. Not much there. Not an overly attractive place but for €6 it wasn’t bad. A reasonable walk for some from the centre but quite easy to find once you get a hang of the walkways.

Mainly empty, the building is interesting and has a charm to it, but there's not much to see here.
Therr are some out of place Diefenbach paintings in a monastery. It's interesting because if you read it up yourself online (there's no description anywhere) Diefenbach referred to the church as the Satan's institute and had his own religious movement.

We already knew the Charterhouse of San Giacomo from having visited it years ago.
This time we wanted to accompany a friend of ours from UK who was visiting Capri for the first time.
The Charterhouse is home to the museum which houses the works of the German painter Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach, who died in Capri in 1913.
When you visit it, you can see the library, the church, the small and large cloisters as well and enjoy the beautiful view that it offers.
It didn't make a good impression on us.
At first sight, the charterhouse looked neglected as a whole.
The paintings by Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach were fascinating!
It is certainly a place that should be better maintained and cared for. There is also a nice private garden overlooking the "Faraglioni", but it should be better kept, and cleaned of the weeds.
Paradoxically it is almost more beautiful to see it from a distance.
Inside it is a bit rundown and left to neglect.
We left quite disappointed.
Yet the view of the sea was truly impressive.

I did not see so many people visiting this place, and I wonder why. Ok, it requires a ticket, but the site is quite nice, even if you don't appreciate that type of painting. This monastery has a beautiful cloister, and gives you nice views over the Faraglioni (though it is better from the gardens).

The Certosa is impressive from the higher vantage point of Capri Town but when you actually get down there, there's little of interest. If you're staying in Capri Town, it's worth a pre dinner stroll but not somewhere you would go out of your way to see.
The monastery is huge and highly evocative but has clearly been left to go to rack and ruin, before being revitalised as a local school (suspended ceilings and modern lighting which ruin the atmosphere). Parts are very interesting and there's a permanent art exhibition by a German artist. The main church has some interesting frescoes that have been salvaged and the two courtyards are interesting enough (one needed a serious mowing when we were there!).
Like many places slightly off the beaten track, the best part is getting away from tourists and immersing yourself in the life of the monks 500 years ago.

We walked here spur of the moment after looking at the posted Capri maps filled with attractions - they make it look gorgeous! It was expensive to enter - 6 euros per person and they failed to mention the gardens were closed for a private event.

I wish we had looked it up on TripAdvisor before paying the money, a complete waste. Peek through the fence at the chapel along the walkway and save your money!

If you like modern art you will love this place and give it 5 stars. Art apart the ex monastery is interesting, not stunning. The entrance to the garden is hard to find (not marked), but has a lovely view. But if it's just the view you want rather than pay 4 Euro here, you get a better view from Augustine's garden for 1 Euro

Abandoned and not well kept, personal is really rude, the forced us to leave because of our middle sized dog even though there are no official interdiction sign. Not recommended
