Private transfer tour with Giovanni Guidone from Rome to Viareggio, Tuscany.

This review is long overdue - It was an amazing trip and Giovanni Guidone made it happen. It was myself, my daughter and her best friend travelling to Viareggio to watch my granddaughter representing the US in the Women's Football 2020 Cup.
Since my daughter had never been to Italy and the rest of us were never in that part of Tuscany....Giovanni stopped at all the places we wanted to see, taking us up roads we would never have seen to take pictures, stopping for breakfast, more sights and a fabulous winnery to end our day trip before arriving at our hotel.
Highly recommend going the extra mile and paying for this private tour with Giovanni who could speak many languages including English which is something we requested .... I would highly recommend using Giovanni since he was more than just our driver - very knowledgeable and great personality.

Our ‘beautiful day’ drive with Daniele is forever an amazing Amalfi memory!

My daughter and I traveled to the Amalfi coast in Italy as a gift for her high school graduation. We flew to Rome and rented a car to drive to our hotel outside of Sorrento. That drive was challenging, but manageable since it was mostly highways. We wanted to see Positano, to visit Pompeii and to visit a local winery and maybe a limoncello distillery. I read how difficult it is to navigate the streets in Positano and find parking, especially in the high season, and I wanted a more custom, personalized experience rather than a tour group experience so I decided to hire a car and driver. Boy am I glad I picked Top Excursions Sorrento and Daniele!! To say that it’s crazy to drive in Positano is an understatement. Daniele was so personable, so funny and gracious and so calm in the crazy traffic, (although he cracked us up with an occasional comical outburst of “mamma Mia!” when cars cut us off or pedestrians stepped in front of the car.) His English was excellent. He really went out of his way to cater to our needs. The car was a spotless Mercedes and we felt like royalty with Daniele opening our doors for us everywhere and picking us up curbside. It was so luxurious but quite affordable and allowed us to look around at the sights and learn about the area from a local. We had an hour and a half in Positano but would recommend more time there — it’s a great place to spend an entire day. We shopped and ate a gelato at a cafe overlooking the water. We stopped for limoncello on our way to the winery on Mt Vesuvius, which was an unexpected experience. It had views overlooking grapevines and the Bay of Naples and offered a truly spectacular 4-course wine pairing for the tasting. The food was delicious authentic Italian expertly paired with a nice variety of white, rose, and full bodied red wines. Afterward, Daniele drove us to Pompeii. He even arranged an outstanding private tour guide for Pompeii (at the last minute) for just me and my daughter. Top Excursion Sorrento made all these arrangements for this amazing day and at the end even extended our 8-hour day to 9-hours because we didn’t want it to end. I didn’t have to do anything but get in the car and have the time of my life. I highly recommend Top Excursion Sorrento!

Great day, Great Service!

Giovanni went above a beyond for us during our stay in Sorrento. He was always quick to respond to any requests and provided exceptional service at a reasonable price. I originally booked his service for a transfer from Naples to Sorrento for our group of 5, but when weather changed our plans a few days later, I reached out very last minute on a Saturday evening to see if he could provide us with an excursion the next day to the Amalfi coast. Within a half hour he confirmed our trip and we met Roberto the next morning. We all had a great day learning and laughing with him as we explored Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. I think we can all agree customer service has been lacking in many places lately, but Giovanni is definitely an exception. With great communication, great staff, ease of booking and a clean and comfortable fleet of vans, I would 100 percent recommend Top Excursion Sorrento.

Update to "Bait and Switch" Review

My wife left a review on our experience with this business to which Giovanni replied. Some of his replies need to be addressed. While our interactions with them may be an exception, elements of Giovanni's reply to the post are an outright lie. Most significantly, he stated that the driver who picked us up at the airport just a few days prior tested positive for Covid. We actually saw that same individual with another group while we were visiting Ravello. If it were true that he had Covid then Giovanni should have notified us that we had a potential exposure, and that driver would surely not have been escorting another group two days later. Second, he said that the van was in good shape. The pictures speak for themselves but they don'teven capture just how dirty it was. It was absolutely filthy, the headliner was obviously damaged and falling as it was repaired with screws and washers to hold in place, and the armrests were non functional. I don't appreciate him trying to gaslight us by saying that it's a shame that we focused on the van and not the view. The reality is that any experience is a culmination of all of the elements. We are all grateful we had the opportunity to see and experience what we did, but the advertised luxury of the transportation fell woefully short. It also sullied the experience a bit when our driver hit a moped. Amazingly, I couldn't determine which of the dents was from that impact and not from prior ones in the 9 year old Merc with over 970,000 K on the odometer.

As Giovanni said, this could all have been avoided had he done a better job of managing our expectations. If customer service is so important then we shouldn't have had to ask for a discount or a refund, it should have been offered. And lastly, be honest. Tell us you overbooked instead of concocting stories about Covid cases.

Remarkable service - made our trip most memorable

Giovanni and Daniele provided us with excellent service during our 3 day trip to Positano, Sorrento, Naples, Vesuvius, and Pompeii. Giovanni greeted us at Naples airport immediately upon our arrival with a beautiful and large van that comfortably accommodated our large party. From the outset, he regaled us with interesting facts about the region throughout our nearly 90 minute ride to our AirBnB in Positano - the time flew by quickly.

Daniele took over from day 2 of our trip, and guided us through Sorrento, a beautiful tour of an olive oil factory, Villa Rufolo, Mt Vesuvius, and Pompeii. He recommended excellent places to sample the local cuisine, and made sure that all of our needs were met.

Unfailingly punctual, impeccably polite, personable, and completely client-focused! We are impressed, and heartily recommend their service!

Awesome clean luxury vehicles and great driving skills with strong customer focus

I've never used a driver service like this before. We've always rented a car when we vacationed. We were blown away by how much better our vacation was having a driver, for not much more than a rental car with gas, tolls, parking, etc would have cost. It was an eye opening experience about how to dramatically improve a vacation! And, if you haven't experienced the super narrow Italian roads and scooters weaving everywhere, you may not yet fully appreciate how high the potential is for a fender bender driving on your own.

Roberto and Giovanni drove us through multiple days of our journey. They know the tight windy roads of the amalfi coast, how to snag a spot in front of a great restaurant, where to go to find pizza for the kids on New Years day when most restaurants are closed, how to find a bathroom quickly when needed, and how to narrate just the right amount. We quickly felt like family.

Immaculate luxury vans, exceptional driving skills, customer focus, and reasonable prices make hiring them the right move for a spectacular low stress vacation. We recommend them highly! When we return, we will use this service again!

Bait and Switch

We used Top Excursion Sorrento on two different occasions and our experience ranged from great to horrible. The first time was a transfer from Naples to Sorrento and the ride/van was as expected. The main reason I used them was when I was inquiring about pricing Giovanni sent me a picture of the van and it was truly luxurious, 4 captains chairs facing each other with a table between them. I didn't share the picture with my family because I wanted it to be a surprise. When our driver pulled up to get us it was NOT the same van. In hindsight, I should have refused to get in but wasn't sure about Italy consumer laws and was afraid I'd still be charged. I kept telling myself the van wasn't that bad, it's not like we were buying it. From the outside it looked ok as it was a Mercedes. However, the inside reminded me of my Parent's 1989 Dodge van, had it been smoked in for 20 years. The headliner and plastic was supposed to be tan but was turning black. The inside door handle was cracked with putty holding it together. My husband's seat was broken and had no armrest so had to brace himself on the window every sharp turn. Besides all that it smelled, very very badly. At the end of the day I wished we'd refused the van as it was a bad experience, we were so uncomfortable in the old seats and felt we now stunk too. When the driver dropped us off he said he didn't have a card reader and needed to pay cash. The situation became uncomfortable as he was saying it cost him 23% if we paid by card (taxes) and needed to pay by cash. We didn't have that amount of cash on us nore was it ever discussed, we paid our airport transfer by card. We ended up calling Giovanni and finally got him to send a link to pay by What's App. We took the time to express our dissatisfaction and he said his other van was being cleaned due to Covid. He admitted the van was in bad shape but said it was better than canceling. But as the customer he should have given us the opportunity to make that decision. There was no apology or offer to reduce the price. I hate writing poor reviews but to be promised a luxury vehicle then never told about the change is completely unacceptable. So be careful booking as you could get stuck with a vehicle that smells and feels like a 20 year old NY cab, so disappointing.

Hi Sarah, I’m Sorry for what happened, usually I don’t write back the reviews, good or bad, but this time I have to do it .. My only error was not to advise you before that we changed the Van because the driver that picked you up at the airport got the Covid and the Van was in the hall of sanctification for 48 hours… That because we are extremely busy this year….. The driver who did the tour spoked fluent English because he lived in America, the Van was 9 years old but in good shape; you right is not the last model, but is Mercedes-Benz. I told you many times sorry, but if the reason was the price you could tell me…And I would offer you the day…believe me 3/400 euro doesn’t change my life…. I’m sorry again, but you know what, that’s happened because I’m too good…. and I care of clients, I had to cancel the tour without worrying if I found another company, which is impossible now . It’s shame that you have given more importance to the Van than to the view…. I feel SORRY, like I told you in the message before the review…..and I learned a lot from this review… Giovanni Guidone

Amazing day tour with Daniele

What started out as a conversation about a simple transfer from our hotel to Positano ended up being our favorite day of the trip. I contacted Giovanni about a transfer and was provided what I deemed a reasonable quote. We had our own car but navigating the winding roads in a different country was something neither of us wanted to do. We spoke with Giovanni some more about Turing our transfer into a “private tour” to visit Positano, Amalfi and Revello. We didn’t discuss the price change and I honestly didn’t think about it. The morning of, we were met at our hotel promptly by Daniele. Even behind the mask you could tell he was smiling and excited for our day together. This tour was more than could have hoped for. Daniele drove wonderfully and made lots of stops so we could get pictures of the coastline. He was also full of amazing information about where we were. Having a local driver was a clear benefit. He made amazing recommendations for lunch and in what towns to buy products like ceramic, limoncello, olive oil and wine. We would arrive in each town and he worked with us to determine how long we wanted to explore. The car itself was wonderful, a very clean very comfortable Mercedes van, he had cold water for us and I can not stress enough just how friendly he was. We enjoyed our day so much that we enlisted Daniele for the next day for a simple transfer from our hotel to a limoncello tasting and then to bring us down to Sorrento. He also was there to pick us up after dinner and bring us back. If there was anything that was a bit odd was at the end of the day we hadn’t discussed payment. As I mentioned we were quoted a rate for a transfer service and went with the private tour instead which was a significant difference. At the end make sure you clearly set your expectations for what your drive will be so there is no surprise after the day. Regardless of price it was well worth it. We would have paid almost anything for the lovely day driving around the Amalfi coast with Daniele. Can’t wait to come back again and take another tour with Giovanni and Daniele.

Forever Changed By Italy

Where do I begin to describe the last month touring Italy from the Amalfi Coast to Tuscany? We landed in Milan on September 13, 2021 but our land adventure with Top Excursion Sorrento began Oct. 13, 2021 when we met our driver Daniele in Naples. He greeted us with a big smile and never failed to impress us for the next ten days. His expertise of the cities, the streets, the traffic and the venues from the Amalfi Coast to Tuscany were beyond compare. He impressed us with his knowledge, charm and humor while touring Italy, pointing out scenic attractions from the road that time just wouldn't allow us to visit. Daniele was always punctual, attentive and professional, but beyond that he became a friend. Many of the roads we traveled were narrow and difficult but we always felt safe and comfortable. Top Excursions is the only way to travel Italy as far as we are concerned. Ask for Daniele and you will be in excellent hands. If you want, you will even get a little lesson in how to speak Italian. From wineries, to historical sites, to restaurants, to scenic drives Top Excursion Sorrento provides it all and Daniele is your man for the job. Thank you Top Excursion and thank you Daniele for making Italy a place that has changed us forever. Ciao until next time. We miss you already!

Better than ever imagined!

A friend recommended this company after her Almafi Coast travels in March and Giovanni was wonderful to plan with via email with many options and lots of clear information.
After four amazing days in Positano and Capri our driver and guide Daniele picked us up at our hotel and brought us to Rome by way of the Amalfi coast, Ravello, and Pompeii. Along the way Daniele shared interesting history around every corner from the original four kingdoms of Italy to the present day. We were in good hands on the curvy coast roads as he grew up here and navigated with ease. His new Mercedes S Class sedan was immaculate with cold water waiting for us and at every stop he knew exactly where to drop off and wait for us to be as close as possible to the best sites! He was a complete gentleman and respectful of our time together while always being engaging. Our journey included a delicious lunch at the Cantina Del Vesuvio; an exclusive winery where we had to be buzzed in at the gate. At Pompeii Daniel handed us off to another amazing guide (also named Daniele - who they booked for us as well) who whisked us past any and all lines and gave us the most interesting tour of the site while doing his best to keep us in the shade on a hot day. After the tour, Daniele brought us to Rome safely, helped us with our bags, and made sure everything was perfect.

We enjoyed our journey with Daniele so much that we insisted on having him show us around Rome today as well! He was waiting for us when we came out of the hotel and took us all around the city from the Spanish steps, up to the Girabaldi monument with breathtaking views of all of Rome, to the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, a delicious lunch at Ristorante Joseph, and shopping, among many more sites along the way. At one moment he even stopped at a local Vigili del Fuoco in Rome so my husband could take a picture with some of his brother firefighters.

The level of service, knowledge, and care Daniel offered us is simply the best; we highly recommend this company to plan a wonderful time and request Daniele if you can - we can’t imagine being in anyone else’s hands. They do transfers to airports etc as well but you are missing out if you don’t tour with them too!
