12th Century Health Tips - really quite fun
May 2018 • Solo
Housed in the former church of St Gregory in the historic centre, you can't really miss it because of the lovely white exterior. Closed on Mondays and entrance is 3 euros.
This small museum gives you a taste of the ancient Salerno Medical School's advice on a string of rather unwholesome topics like 'surgery' 'urine' and even 'vomit'.
Health Promotion 12th century style deals with the benefits of 'white wine',' bovine meat' and 'spring water' . There's a comprehensive list on the screen. There's even a brilliant little 'short' on Salerno's first female doctor (Via Tortula de Ruggiero where the Papi Museum is, bears her name).
Sara from the Papi Museum was the member of staff on duty and she was super helpful as usual. It's not state of the art technology but it was really good fun and anyone with a medical background or interest in this 'field' would enjoy.

Not Much There
May 2018 • Couples
Not much more than a slide show. Additionally, not a particularly good one. If more than one set of visitors are viewing the show on different screens, the sounds would conflict and be distracting.

Slide Show
Feb 2018
15-20min slide show presenting the history of medicine in Salerno since medieval times. Having the recent opportunities of the internet in mind, this presentation seems a bit outdated.

Interesting digital displays of medieval medicine.
Feb 2017 • Couples
The digital displays happen in this lovely old chapel. On large TV touchscreens one is guided through a history of early medicine and the importance of Salerno at those times.

Very good museum to visit while you are in Salerno. Better to read some information beforehand as the information provided are only in Italian

Just a slide show
Oct 2015 • Couples
First, this is NOT the actual site of the original medical school. Second it is not a "virtual" museum. Simply a few chairs set up in front of a screen where video slide shows were projected from a PC. Narration is in Italian with English subtitles. Information was interesting about how the first medical teachings were conducted and the basis of those teachings. If you are in the medical profession you will find it interesting.

ths museum help you know the ancient "scuola medica salernitana" a sort of medical university in medioeval age based on the use of herbs. It's well organized and it's attractive also for children and school.
