We have been here before by private driver but to see these mountains from the water just takes your breath away! We strolled into this piazza and sat down beside the Fontana at Porto Salvo da Germanino and enjoyed a delicious gelato. The Fontana is a sight to behold with water poring out of the breasts. Must see to appreciate!Visited October 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten September 20, 2023
- Herbert C1,757 contributionsA symbol of Amalfi’s glorious maritime pastLocated at the bustling Piazza Duomo in the town centre, the historic St Andrew's Fountain was built in 1760, featuring a blend of Byzantine and Arab architectural styles and is dedicated to none other than St Andrew, the patron saint of Amalfi. His statue stood prominently at the centre of this fountain surrounded by nymphs and cherubs, with refreshing spring water spouting out from the most unusual places. To the casual tourists, this fountain may be a convenient source of water to quench their thirst, but to the locals, it symbolizes the historical and cultural heritage of Amalfi's glorious maritime past.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 22, 2024

Fountain is pretty and a little funny with water coming from breasts. I saw more that one person smile. Don't take life to seriously and enjoy time in the piazza. Grab a gelato and have fun in Amalfi

Right in the middle of town and in front of the city main church it is almost impossible to miss. I saw some people filling up water bottles with the water from the fountain. I am not sure how secure the water is to drink.

Pretty cool fountain where many of the locals come to get a drink. We actually filled up our water bottles as well. Very nice water source and worth seeing. Right in front of the Duomo

The fountain was built in 1760 and is one of the symbols of the city. In the center is a statue of St. Andrew, the patron saint of the city. Pretty nice building.

There is plastic around the work area so you can still see what the fountain looked like. But it is currently not functioning as of October 9, 2018

A lovely marble fountain at the foot of the steps leading up to the wonderful cathedral. St Andrew is shown holding a book, and what looks like two French baguettes (unlikely!) We were told that they were the two elements of a St Andrew cross (I still think they looked more like baguettes). At St Andrew's feet were two cherubim and a naked female with, rather alarmingly, two large protruding metal spouts where her nipples should be.

Saint Andrew asked that he not be crucified in the same fashion of Jesus as he deemed himself unworthy to parody the manner of Jesus' death. His crucifixion was on an "x" shaped cross, the attribute with which he is normally shown.
This fountain is in the main square part of Amalfi. The main figure of the saint is surrounded by cherubs and figures pouring water. The Latin writing at the base of the fountain "hunc tibi perpetuo sacramus fontem" translates to "you always consecrate this spring."

The sculpture/fountain sits in the Piazza dell Duomo and depicts St Andrew but water pouring from his breast!!!! Locals and tourists alike drink and fill their water bottles here probably thinking it brings good luck but probably only a refreshing way to hydrate!!
The fountain is nothing special when compared to the likes of Trevi or others!

The fountain is conveniently located right in front of il Duomo di Sant'Andrea. It's free to access, although the piazza was quite busy as it's surrounded by shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Since there isn't much to do here other than enjoy the views, this is considered an attraction. In Rome it would not merit a mention.
