Came to Amalfi,on a ferry from Sorrento.Has a nice buzz to the place.
The cathedral was good until we went to the crypt and saw the history.Which included the story of this is the place that the remains of St Andrew’s are kept.Being a Scotsman who was named after this guy was amazing.
Outside in the town there was several statues and pictures of him.

This narrow street with many restaurants and small shops and interesting side alleyways is the heart of Amalfi but it was packed with people visiting this interesting part of Italy. If you like crowds this is for you but there are better places along the coast. Still good.

Ruga Nova Mercatorum is the hub of this beach town.

Its packed with tourists and is very vibrant.

Lots of restaurants, bars and shopping options as well as historic church.

We enjoyed our day tour of this region.

The city is full of props. Thousands of tourists push each other through the city at crowded restaurants and tourist shops. It's a rush hour romp in a big Asian city. Lines of several hundred passengers are constantly forming at the ferry port and at the bus terminal. While the ferries still somehow work in time, the buses are in sheer chaos. A disastrous organization with overwhelmed and sometimes unfriendly staff (except for the young man at the information desk ! ). "Out of here" was our reaction.

A small picturesque street with many souvenir shops. Even if you are not going to buy anything, it's worth a stroll, there are many cafes with delicious ice cream and more.

It could hardly be called a street - actually, I had trouble in finding it just because I could not imagine that a narrow passage through a stone arcade was a street. It is right in the center and goes parallel to the main street. There are small shops there, and it is quite a feeling to walk.

This is a busy area, great for shopping, eating, drinking and enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of Amalfi. Can be very busy.

thanAmalfi is more relaxed to my opinion. The shops are better accessible, there are more shops then in Positano and they are more focussed on tourists.
Wider streets, less stairs.
I Absolutely recommend it.

There are various views on the actual address of this listing, but it seems that the Via dei Mercanti (Street Of Merchants) is the main thoroughfare of shops that runs from the Square in front of the Duomo uphill away from the sea. Ruga Nova Mercatorum, similarly referenced is from a much earlier period. We were lucky in our timing when visiting, middle/late afternoon, when whilst busy and with a vibrant atmosphere, the larger crowds from the cruise ship had mostly left. We really enjoyed strolling the area and immersing ourselves in the ambience. Tip, if you have the option, try to go at a similar time, for the best enjoyment.

lovely little streets , alleys and passageways. You can walk up and down and around...behind every corner there are shops and places to eat. Really cute. Parked at the port - one of the few places where the parking machine gives change and takes euro notes....
