An easy walk from Monodendri village, this monastery serves also as a lookout into the gorge. The access to the cliff edge seems closed now due to some rockfall, yet even the monastery terraces provide nice views into the abyss. Try to arrive asap (or...More

It is a quite long walk from the city centre, they write 600m, but it differently seems more with a lot of height difference. The monastery does not look like being taken care of, many stones are moving so watch your step! There was a...More

We did this in the late afternoon and it was quite warm so the walk back up was tiring. The church was locked up but you could get to see the view of the gorge. A welcome drink back in the village helped. We went...More

A 15 minutes of easy walking will bring you to this amazing little monastery. The monk makes paints beautiful byzantine icons. Be careful with the path beyond the monastery to Vikos canyon - very dangerous but the view is breathtaking!

You can either walk to it if you are staying at Monodendri or simply by parking your car at the entrance of a stoned road and walk there; about 500 metres. A must see!

Not so well maintained but the view of the gorge of vikos is spectacular. If you're properly prepared, there starts the route for going through the gorge.

do not miss, some of the nicest, breathtaking, Vikos views. Watch father Elias painting traditional Greek icons, is fascinating

Superb view coupled to a great historic-religious place. Not to be missed. Be careful during winter-times as the path is an easy one, yet covered with snow.

This is set in the Vikos Gorge and the views from the Monastery are just breathtaking! It is the deepest gorge in the Guiness Book of Records and you can certainly see why. The monastery is in the village of Monodendri and you have a...More
