We visited the monastery in January 2020 and the experience was amazing. Great views of the vikos and the surrounding mountains. The road to the monastery is with the local grey stones and it has many spots for photographs. The actual monastery is well kept and the people who live in or work there are very friendly and talented. They draw saint pictures which are great for your house or souvenir for the foreigners. A MUST visit of the area

An easy walk from Monodendri village, this monastery serves also as a lookout into the gorge. The access to the cliff edge seems closed now due to some rockfall, yet even the monastery terraces provide nice views into the abyss. Try to arrive asap (or later in the afternoon) to avoid the tour bus crowds.

You can either walk to it if you are staying at Monodendri or simply by parking your car at the entrance of a stoned road and walk there; about 500 metres. A must see!

This is a nice walk of 600 meters each way, to this unique tiny monastery that is located just above the canyon. Although at this point, the canyon is mostly dry, the views are still beautiful. Try visiting this spot before you visit the other two main observation points (the one 6 KM north of Monodendry, and the one across the canyon at Vradeto). Otherwise you may be a bit disappointed. This way you go from beautiful to AMAZING.

My family and I walked from Monodendri to the Monastery. It look around 10 minutes. Once there the Monastry is interesting but the views of the Vikos Gorge are spectacular

The walk towards the church is great. Don’t miss it! The view is also amazing from 2-3 spots of the monastery. Stay on the religious part and...leave out the commercial ...

A short walk from Monodendri village will take you to the Monastery. The view is breath-taking, as the 900 mt deep gorge extends just before your eyes.

The monastery hugs the sheer rocks of the Vikos Gorge and offers a splendid view of the different arms of the valley.

It’s a small spot to relax and maybe even visit the chapel with its old frescoes, or watch the monk painting the icons.

It is a quite long walk from the city centre, they write 600m, but it differently seems more with a lot of height difference. The monastery does not look like being taken care of, many stones are moving so watch your step! There was a grumpy lady inside, trying to force us to buy some paintings. The view was good, but not so good if you drive like 15 extra minutes to Oxia.

We did this in the late afternoon and it was quite warm so the walk back up was tiring. The church was locked up but you could get to see the view of the gorge. A welcome drink back in the village helped. We went on to the viewpoint at Oxia which was better
