I went here before heading off to Sicily, i haven't been in because it was closed, but it is opposite the Chiesa Degli Ottimati, and has a playground for kids nearby. Worth a visit.

Tucked away just behind Reggio’s picturesque Corso Garibaldi shopping street, I’m honestly not sure how I missed the Castel Aragonese in my previous visits to the wonderful southern city.

For a small fee you can walk through what remains of this impressive historical structure. While there may not be that much to see inside it, it does offer some fantastic panoramic views over the city, lido and across to Messina.

If in Reggio I’d definitely recommend paying it a visit. Of the 2 gents working there when I visited only one spoke English, but both were helpful and polite.

A part of the areas' history of the Aragonese period, unfortunately of what is left and not destroyed. One should visit other spots of the city in order to combine and coprehend the city's defencive structure.

A shadow of its former self it still emits a real sense of power. Interestingly lit at night, a free visit during the day, and helpful staff (almost overly helpful but it was a quiet December day). Great views of the town from the top of the castle, but that’s it. Very little information about the role the castle has played over the centuries guarding the straits and the town. The storming by Garibaldi and the part played by the British in that event. The castle could be brought to life but at the moment it just remains a powerful but empty viewing platform.

For 3 euros, we were given a wonderful guided tour of the castle. So much history, beautiful views, and a tour guide native to Reggio Calabria who radiated pride and for her hometown's rich cultural heritage. Thank you so much Azzurra for sharing your insight about the history and people of Reggio!

Not exceptional but probably suffered from the earthquake at the beginning of the 20th century which leveled the entire city. Had an extra exposition of live butterflies which made it a little more interesting. From the top you get some nice views... Also the only part you can really access.

Make sure you go all the way to the top for the great views! What does one. We'd to say about castles? They're all cool. And this one was free!

The castle is so imposing, but it is basically empty. The modern sculpture garden is a treat however. Needs better explanatory signage or notes.

We went to visit the castle because we love everything historical. It was great being able to walk through at your own pace, and admire the views inside and out from every stop. The views at the top were simply breath taking,so even if you don't understand all the Italian writing,go for the views up top.
