About
Live a fun activity steeped in culture and customs, in a real-family environment! Learn the secrets of the authentic Italian cuisine through our private hands-on cooking classes in Matera. Mary will welcome you and your friends in her private kitchen where you'll cook traditional dishes that you can easily reproduce at home and enjoy the masterpiece you've just learned to prepare! During the session you will make 4 tasty recipes – which depend on the day and season (homemade pasta – ravioli, tagliatelle, cavatelli – fresh tomato sauces, eggplant parmigiana, tiramisu, panna cotta, etc.), all with fresh organic ingredients. Once everything is cooked, you’ll sit around my kitchen table and enjoy your meal paired with a good wine. According to the most typical Italian tradition, an espresso will conclude this adventure. At the end of the day you’ll receive your Italian cooking Diploma and a gift to remember this special experience. As part of our club, you’ll keep receiving our newsletter and updates on recipes, menus, tips and secrets of the Italian cuisine, and may count on our support if you need help in recreating our recipes. Classes are in English and hands-on – you will not just watch, you will take an active role in making your own meal. Small groups of min 2, max 6 people (but we can arrange larger groups if needed). Morning classes starting around 10:00 a.m. (evening sessions can be arranged upon request). Recommended to everybody: kids will love to make homemade pasta and pizza! We can arrange special classes and menus for vegetarians and people with food intolerances. Lessons are in English, but if you know – or are learning – our language and want a fun way to practice it, our classes can also be held in Italian.

We found Mary's cooking course on Trip advisor and even though there were no reviews, her website and friendly emails convinced us to make a booking.

We arrived at Mary's lovely home at 10am and spent the next 5 hours with her. Mary's sister, Sylvia, was home on a holiday and her husband Fillipo was also there.

Our family had a fantastic time cooking and the children especially loved making fresh pasta and panna cotta. We also made aubergine rolls, scallopine with a local type of mushroom, and an orange salad. We tasted local cheeses and other local specialties and could barely move at the end as we were so full. All of the ingredients were fresh and high quality, right down to the olive oil from Mary's olive trees.

Mary speaks fantastic English and her husband and sister were incredibly warm and welcoming. We had interesting conversations with them during the day and enjoyed spending time with an Italian family.

Mary also kindly have us and the children lovely gifts to take home.

A fantastic and memorable day! Along with rowing in Venice, the best thing we have done in the four weeks we have been in Italy.

Thank you Mary!

My friend and I had a lovely day with Mariangelo and Filipo. First a tour of the Sassi, then off to the market to buy fresh ingredients and cooking the rest of the afternoon away while one after the other creation is made. Finally the grand finale by having a meal with this fun and kind couple. Do not miss this class! Great fun😃

Can't say enough great things about our time with Mariangela. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious! We had such a fascinating visit through the Sassi, learning about the ancient times to the more recent. Her own personal experiences from family history and growing up in Matera made it that much more powerful. Then, the cooking night was just fantastic. We laughed, learned, and ate some delicious food! One of our favorite parts of our stay in Matera.

Mary and her husband met us at our hotel in Matera. We had a private tour of this fascinating place from someone whose family is from the town. Articulate, gracious, humorous, and knowledgeable Mary is the perfect guide. Marketing in the upper town and then returning to their home for cooking and eating. One of the highlights of our visit to Puglia.

Mariangelo and Filippo were gracious hosts and we all felt comfortable in their lovely home. The cooking lessons were inspiring and the food was the best meal we had during our trip. Our discussions about Matera increased our understanding of this historic region. We look forward to seeing them on their next trip to America.

Vegetarian family of three learnt to cook traditional cruise from Matera in Mariangelas stylish airconditioned home with funky kitchen. Learning about culture while cooking with Mariangela was fun and surprisingly easy, even making pasta from scratch with our on hand turns out to be children's play. The recepies were handed down from Mariangela's family traditions and emailed us after our meeting. The prosecco and red wine was local and tasted great. Her English is perfect, her devotion to traditions and ability to explain in a hands on way made it easy and cool even for our daughter to participate actively.we highly recommend to prepare and eat lunch at her place while stayibg in Matera.

My grown daughter and I decided to add Matera to our Italy itinerary, and when I saw that there was a cooking class offered there, we quickly signed up. It far exceeded our expectations!

Mariangela is the perfect cooking teacher and the perfect host. To have our cooking class in her home was a real treat - to watch a real Italian cook in her real Italian home was a great cultural experience. She provided mid-morning snacks as we were preparing our 4-course mid-day meal - which was absolutely delicious. She taught us how to hand roll cavatelli, and introduced us to Cruschi peppers - a local product. We went right out and bought some to bring home!

Thank you to Mariangela and Filippo for a memory-filled day. The conversations that took place during our time there taught us more about Italy than we would ever experience touring through the country. We are extremely happy we signed up for Cook 'n Fun with Mary.

thank you

My kids, our friend and I had a truly wonderful experience learning to cook some delicious Italian dishes with Maria and Filipo. Great people, wonderful recipes, great fun. We started at the market in Matera and bought fresh ingredients and then went to their lovely home. It was wonderful for the kids aged 7, 11 and 15. We made fresh pasta, chocolate deserts, salads, eggplant dish, sautéed mushrooms and picked olives from their trees. Maria and Filipo are wonderful with the kids and the kids considered this day certainly one of the highlights of the entire trip. The lunch was delicious - we want to do it again. Very highly recommended.

She tailored the tour to suit the group and their interests. She was friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend to family or friends.
