Fantastic way to experience Matera is to take a cooking class with Mary! We spend a lovely day making food from the Matera region and learning more about the people, culture and history of the region. She is warm, inviting and very experienced chef. We learned how to make pasta, tiramisu and other delicious food! I never dreamt that making pasta would be so much fun and easy. If you go to Matera, you should take a cooking class with Mary!

We attended half day class where we learned to make a full meal. We have done many half and full day cooking classes in Italy. Some are more observing , some are very hands on, and this one was very hands on. She explained everything done as it was made, and immediately sent us the recipes once the class was over. When planning the event, we were given menu options and Mariangela was quite accommodating to our needs. We learned the specific way pasta is made in Basilicata and we were happy to know that some items (like the mushrooms we used) are unique to the region. I believe that we all felt that this was one of the highlights of our week trip to southern Italy, and would highly recommend.

The evening my husband and I and our three children (ages 7, 9, and 13) spent with Mary and her husband was the best part of our amazing time in Matera. The food was absolutely delicious and Mary’s guidance was perfect, but the real stand out to me was the exchange of ideas and stories between our families. I had no idea how fantastic this night would be, but Mary made this a truly unforgettable experience and far surpassed my expectations. I highly, highly recommend this to everyone visiting Matera!

Spent a great 4 hours with Mary cooking up an amazing 4 course lunch combined with chat and getting to know so much about the area and life in Matera We started making an amazing vanilla and coffee pannacotta Then made amazing bread balls and a delicious tomato sauce Made a very unusual orange salad with garlic, olive oil, peppery powder salt and fresh oranges Fried some spiced breadcrumbs to accompany the sausage pasta Cooked up a sausage and tomato sauce to serve with the pasta which was the last thing we made fresh cavatelli pasta We had a little break half way to eat a vast amount of amazing cheeses and sip some prosecco Then once all cooked we sat and ate and chatted and sipped red wine Was a great day to spend what ended up being a wet and thundery day! If you get the chance to do this I would highly recommend the experience Mary and her family were very welcoming and entertaining

We had a fantastic time learning to cook some delicious food with Mariangela and Fillippo. From the moment we arrived at their beautiful home we were made to feel welcome and by the time we left we felt like we'd made two new friends. The whole day was so much fun and we learnt a lot about the traditional dishes we were making. We were involved in making all the dishes, our favourite part (apart from eating what we'd made!) was making homemade pasta. Halfway through cooking we enjoyed a glass of prosecco and an amazing selection of focaccia, cheese and meat. We felt such a sense of achievement when we sat down to eat the food we'd spent hours making. The food was absolutely delicious, made with beautiful local ingredients and enjoyed with a glass of red wine. I highly recommend this experience for anyone who enjoys cooking, eating and meeting new people. Our day at Cook'n Fun at Mary's was the highlight of our trip to Matera!
