Matera was one of our favorite cities to visit and learn more about. The fact that hotels, homes and restaurants are reinvigorating these caves is fascinating. But this museum takes first prize. It's a bit of work to find it. Don't give up. Keep asking and you will be in for a treat. It is so rare to see art... More

Beautiful city. The old part (the Sassi) is very authentic and well taken care off with nice streets, a mustsee museum MUSMA, the Piazza San Pietro with the magnificent little church... Will be European Cultural Capital in 2019

This was a highlight of the trip. The works of sculpture are modern and diverse located in various caves. What a wonderful museum. If you have interest in modern scut pure this is a must. Very highly recommended

A range of modern art displayed throughout an old Materan property and the caves, formerly used for making and storing wine. Some of the art is more interesting than other but a number of pieces really suited the curation in the caves. Some of the house itself is either under repair or in need of, but it is an interesting... More

One of the several attractions of Matera, it will not take more than 1 hour to visit the entire modern art collection. I suggest this attraction only to those really interested in modern art, as are displayed mainly niche artists

The museum itself was even more interesting than the art! Contemporary scultpture in an ancient place.

I visited this museum, not for the sculpture/artwork, but to see the building. There are (I think) seven caves, as well as an architecturally interesting Palazzo built on top of it. It also had a good bookstore.

We've been in this museum during a visit to this fantastic town. Modern art sculptures in the cellar of a palace. The cellar is made of caves in the mountain. Try to visit this one during your stay.

This is fabulous for walking through the palazzo and caves which house the collection. Very classy setting and sculptural works. Well worth taking the time to wander through the galleries both upstairs and in the cave basement. Reasonable entrance fee as well.

We visited towards the end of the season. Despite it being a day of rain in Matera, we were the only visitors, which was lovely for us but means that many are missing out on a great experience. The setting is special, being set in the caves for which Matera is famous, but the collection would be impressive regardless of... More
