Tetta della monaca
Jun 2019 • Solo
The gelato with bites of tetta della monaca (bisquites and creme chantilly) is considered as one of examples of Matera 2019 heritage. Try both versions of the lovely product :)

Very good gelato
Aug 2016
There may be more than one branch of this long established (1940) pasticceria and gelateria. I visited the one in Via Bruno Bozzi.

The gelato was very good and they do excellent sorbetti with alcohol. I can recommend strawberry with vodka!

Wow!

We arrived in Matera in the afternoon and looked for a quick bite; a passer-by directed us to Pasticceria Schiuma. What a find! The sandwiches were really good but the pastries were out of this world!

There was only one table and an elderly gentleman insisted we sit as he said ‘it is not good to eat standing up’. How right he was!

We tried many of their specialties, the small and the not so small pastries, the homemade jellies, everything freshly made and excellent in texture and quality. Very good coffee and capuccino.

We then found out the gentleman was the owner of the place and told us people come from far away to learn how to cook and decorate pastries and cakes!

A dream for gluttons!

Traditional and delicious

Lovely pastry shop. This is a traditional old-school pasticceria in the heart of beautiful Matera. Service was genteel, pastries delicious, prices low. Nice place.

very good coffee and pastries

Unfortunately we only found this on our last day in matera even though it is close to the main square but in the wrong direction for most tourists. We had the best cappuccinos all week and delicious little cakes in very nice surroundings and at a good price. The lady serving also spoke the best English we had come across.

Hunt it out in your first day in matera and you will not go anywhere else for a sweet snack.

A hidden gem!
The hot chocolate is out of this world! Their sweet treats are very tasty and the staff are very friendly. This place was so good that we went back the next day for more!

impeccable and welcoming
May 2012 • Business
we visited this historic pastry shop in a cold rainy day in may, to get cappuccinos and brioches. the shop was impeccable, plenty of choice (sweet items and sandwiches). the owner welcomed us as we never have seen before. he asked the waiters to bring us two (free) glasses of sparkling water. we had brioches with cream and amarena, extremely good as was the cappuccino. there is just one table (yes, one!) so you may have to drink your cafe standing. we had the feeling that it is a jewel and suggest to drop there before or after a walk in the amazingly beautiful sassi.
