We love the Italian cathedrals and this is no exception. Beautiful outside and inside the decoration is breathtaking. From the plaza are sone wonderful views of Sassi. All in all this has been one of our favourite places in Italy so far during our road trip

Italians have a diminutive suffix for small squares. Given the size of the Piazza Duomo, I would call it a Piazzetta rather than a Piazza. In addition, it is filled with cars during the day. Its only obvious advantage is not the view of the Cathedral, which is so-so , but the view of the city from the observation platform. Not the best in Matera. but it is noteworthy.…
