This train line is indeed beautiful. We took the local trains instead of the Bernina express so that we could hop on/hop off at the different stations. The station that I recommend to get off for the spectacular photos opportunity is Alp Grum station. You'll get the photos of the glacier behind you. And on the other side of the... More

This is a must if you are in the area. The train climbs to the dizzy heights of 2253 meters going through beautiful country side reaching the snow covered mountain tops. There are great views on the train with large glass windows so no disappointment were you sit

This steep, scenic railway trip goes from Tirano to St. Moritz through wonderful countryside. The cars are comfortable and they have oversize windows for sightseeing. The elevation change is approximately 1800 meters, and you go past 3 glaciers. At St. Moritz the small lake is very scenic. St. Moritz has pricy shopping, and a great expensive chocolate shop. The owner... More

I did the Albula/Bernina express. I wanted to understand how come that the railway is considered the World's heritage. Albula and Bernina railways are parts of the Rhaetian railway and is a UNESCO Heritage that moves! A single track railway passes through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges and viaducts (and what viaducts they are!) is considered a masterpiece of... More

I took the 9:00 Regio train from Tirano for a 4 hour spectacular train journey to Chur. Via the Buriso spiral viaduct, lakes, green medows, small towns to Bernina pass 2250m. Down to Pontresina where I had to change for the 6 min ride to Samedan. Here another change; the RegioExpress with catering to Chur. Through Abula tunnel, spiral tunnels... More

Used the Rahaetian railway as part of a longer trip from Malta to the UK and it was far and away the best part of the trip, in fact it made the whole trip worthwhile. Route was Tirano-Chur changing at Pontresina and Samdan, and even the changes were quick and efficient. The scenery was utterly breathtaking, and I'd go far... More

Although part of a package, the staff treated us like any other passenger and shook hands as we left...that's a first! Best trackside scenery ever with lots of snow capped peaks.

A magical experience through the alps from Tirano to St Moritz. Very comfortable carriages with large windows designed for scenic travel.
