What a Waste
May 2021 • Friends
I’m a local in the village and decided after a nice day in the sun that we would walk to The Bull for a couple of drinks in the evening sun.
Despite it being a Sunday and only being 19:30pm combined with the nice weather, the Euros England match being on and the website stating they were open until 22:00pm I was surprised to find they wasn’t.
A perfectly nice beer garden and plenty of space inside all closed, when I phoned no one answered but a man appeared and told us they were shut with no explanation despite they’re website claiming they were open.
Very confusing as you’d think after the last year or so pubs and restaurants have had they’d be welcome to customers, but apparently not.

Great staff, nicely refurbished, well laid out for the new normal. Food was very good quality and nicely presented. My only complaint was that the vegetarian menu does not feature on the main menu and was on a separate black board that is not observable from the main eating area, therefore not realising that it existed my choice of available dishes was limited to one which I ordered and enjoyed. I didn’t think of asking if there were alternatives which be a bit like going into a vegetarian restaurant and asking if there is a meat menu.

Delightful evening meal
Oct 2020
We met relatives in this delightful pub as it halfway between each of our houses.
Safety measures in place are excellent and the widely spaced tables and attention to detail made this a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The food is delicious and well priced with a wide and varied menu and we were also fortunate to get 10% off the food bill which was a lovely surprise.

The welcome and service we received was warm and efficient and the whole evening actually felt normal which is very welcome in these worrying times.
If you live within travelling distance of this pub and want a well priced meal, I suggest you book a table.

Delicious and reasonably priced food in lovely setting

We came on a Saturday evening for a nice romantic meal and were impressed with the look and feel of the pub (I am very pro-fairy lights). The menu isn’t extensive but there is easily enough that anyone could find something that they enjoy. I had a Brie and bacon pizza and honestly it’s the absolute best pizza dough I have ever tasted - it’s usually the least exciting part of a pizza but it was light, fluffy, with an artistically twisted crust that showed it was handmade and finished with a slight flavouring of Parmesan in the crust that was just to die for!! All the food was hot, fresh and tasty, and the servers were extremely friendly and attentive. The only thing that let this lovely pub down a little was the lack of social distancing between tables in the pub (though I do appreciate how difficult it is to try and arrange), the poor maintenance in the toilets and the fact that the designated exit for the pub leads you onto a country road in the pitch black.

Used to go here on a regular basis as I was a local. It's a bit hit and miss. Some days u get a nice meal ( not great) and some days it's pure terrible. Once I had a steak I paid almost £20 for and it was inedible (total jank) and I had a pudding which had a long piece of plastic still inside it. Made my stomach turn. Not very good portions and a limited menu. Bit overpriced too considering the food quality.

Food gone downhill
Aug 2016 • Family
Felt compelled to write another review as sadly the food has really gone down in my estimations which is a real shame. The saving grace in this pub is the lovely lady (I think her name is Kristina?) who serves on weekdays. She has a great personality, can't do enough to help. I feel the rest of the staff are slightly too young to really interact with the age of clientele this pub attracts. Please step up your food game, we won't be eating here again until it improves

A real change for the better
We stopped for a drink on our way home from Ashford, and found this pub has been really improved recently by a new landlord. When we were last here in July it was looking quite run down and neglected, but there has clearly been a lot of work done inside and out to make it look cared for and smart. The staff behind the bar were friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed sitting in the garden with our drinks. We understand from someone we were chatting to that the new landlord also runs the Flying Horse in Smarden, where we have had several really good meals. By the way, if that is true then the person inky refers to in their review can't possibly have been the new landlord as his dog is 15 and has chronic arthritis!
