This big open plaza takes its name of course from the indoor market which is the centrepiece, flanked by marble steps and with a huge array of all kinds of delicious things to consume. The Valencia card entitles you to a free drink and tapas from a variety of different sellers - choose which one appeals to you the most, there are several avaialble. The plaza itself is busy and bustling as you would expect - close to both the tourist district in the old part of town and the more modern part of the city towards the main railway station. A great place for getting to know the city and for people watching.

Seeing this gorgeous historic place most every day, it was always a pleasure visiting the attractions or passing through.
A Sunday morning had a stamp collectors market set up, with numerous stamps and albums displayed.
Three wonderful attractions are a must-see. Iglesia de los Santos Juanes is marvellous with remarkable facades and interior, that is still being renovated after major Civil War damage.
The remarkable Silk Exchange is suffused with history and the economic life of the city over centuries. A visit to the Central Market is to see what avenues of fresh food and produce of every conceivable kind looks like.
Other impressive buildings, particularly the red bricked on either side of the Market, are worth perusing.
Eateries in or nearby are plentiful and good.

Pretty much the centre of the old town, the plaza is surrounded by magnificent buildings and occupied by a number of cafes, restaurants and tourist shops. On Sunday thare was a small outdoor market which seemd to specialise in coins, stamps and badges.
If you spend any time in the city you will surely pass through here and it is worth lingering a while.

This is a great market with everything you would want to eat under one roof. Great selection of fruits and nuts that were handy to have as a snack whilst we were travelling. Great windows on this market and a chilled out vibe inside. Inside the market feels quite big and not too busy.

This posting is late. We visited in March 2020 with my Mother.
No one was required to wear face masks at that time but we did.
The vegetables and the seafood was amazing to check out. There are a few eateries inside. A few shops are located outside of the market along the the side of the building. It is very spacious inside
You definitely have to visit this market if you are in Valencia!

We had half an hour to meet our tour group in this plaza in front of the Market building. There are commercial buildings, souvenir shops, and restaurants. We first walked straight into the market for public toilets😊later walked along the rows of perfect vegetables, fruits, and mouth watering meat/cheese displays.

Go inside the Mercado to see all the products they sell. Look at the butchers places with noses from pigs, feet from pigs and cows, hearts ad what more the Spanish like that not all other people like. Unfortunately you will not find bars and small restaurants with tapas inside like in barcelona market. But do not miss it, also the building itself is nice. Around the mercado you will find the restaurants you will not have inside. So have a meal( often very good priced) there.

absolutely essential stop for a visit to València both architecturally / cultural view and from a gastronomic point of view!
The enormous Mercado Central de València was built in between 1914 and 1928 and was one of the best Art Nouveau buildings in the Valencian region: its iron and glass functionalist structure is topped by a spectacular dome
30 meters high, easily visible from many parts of the city!
Decorations, decorated with stained glass and ceramics, are inspired by the same function for which this building was built, so climbers are mixed with various fruits, including, of course, dominated by the orange.
The intense bustle of people and the swarm of voices among the desks are an essential part of this attraction that if you start to visit for its structure you end up appreciating even more for succulent delicacies it offers.
Great resting spot during a tour of the city, allows you to refresh with something healthy like fresh fruit or something more "sinful" as sandwiches and the like without losing too much time.
Absolutely to visit and to "live" in total Valenciano style! @ gargio76

If you can only visit one than I would recommend this one in the center of the city as this one is the old fasion market style one. Loads of little market stalls with fresh products and local people and habits, love the foods being displayed in many nice ways. Foods that I didn't know even. Make sure you taste some local foodies
