We walked around the market on our way to lunch. It was a feast for the eyes. I felt the prices were a little on the high side compared to normal fruit and vegetable shops. Clearly they cater to the tourists.

We were here Christmas Eve, and shuffled through the crowds of locals buying for their holiday meals. This is the place to come for all your fresh food. Look for the longest lines, as those are the vendors with the highest quality. Expect to pay in cash.

I read that this is the largest market of this type in Europe. It is certainly larger with more variety and more 'scenic' than the market in Barcelona, which seems to get more attention. I would come back here before I would go back to Barcelona!

Based on all the enthusiastic feedback I read on TripAdvisor, we visited the Central Market and bought some nice local jambon, cheese and had breakfast there. It's a beautiful hall but overall, I expected more (from a tourist perspective)

Mercado Central is just like a film set, but with wonderful smells of fish cheese meets and spices. You can't miss finding it but best not to try and park near it! If you can't find a spot , just like any other city, its very hard to get back to where you want to be!
