Unfortunately I travelled through the park on a busy Sunday but I was amazed by it nevertheless. It is a vast expanse of water with various migratory and resident birds. It is a must for me to return at a quieter time and enjoy it even more.

…but I will never find out. I had a ticket for the trip, booked weeks in advance. Bus arrived half an hour late, driver tells us that the bus is full. No trip for us. If you buy a ticket from Visit Valencia note that they sell more tickets than they have space for. Got a refund, but would rather have seen the park and had the lunch we had paid for weeks earlier. Tip: if you book this trip - go to bus stop 1. If you wait at other bus stops there is a chance you will go nowhere that day. Avoid wasting a day of a holiday like we did.

We decided to go to El Palmar for the visit to the largest lake in Spain..roughly as wide as our Lake Maggiore..
We arrived by bus number 24 directly from Oceanografic taking about 40 minutes, with a pleasant journey that flanked the large rice fields in the area.
When we arrived in the village we sincerely expected something more, but in addition to a series of restaurants offering paella, born in this area, there was not much else.
However, we decided to take advantage of the proposal, which is made by several of the restaurants present a boat ride on the lake, at a cost of 5 eur per oersona.
It was a nice experience, very particular; a crew consisting of a dozen passengers and the boatwoman explained, exclusively in Spanish, the peculiarities of the place and its history, in about an hour of navigation.
Very relaxing, it allowed us to know a very rich part of nature and history.

Simply amazing place, people and experience!!! A lovely way to spend a day. Only a 40 minute bus ride from the city of Valencia this area offers so much. Book early and take the early bus as otherwise it gets VERY warm.

From the bus we headed to the boats and the lake cum lagoon is immense so I thought that we were heading to the sea!! After a gentle boat trip around the lake we headed back to the land and walked into the small town. The lake gives the locals fish as well as rice growing so they look after it well.

In the little town we sat down for a beer and then a super lunch which includes paella cooked using the local rice. truly delicious!

At 1430 we climbed back onto our bus to head back to the city, a truly great experience NOT to be missed.

We drove out of Valencia 90 mins before sunset, found ample parking (set satnav for Embarcador de l'Albufera) although traveling in this direction you have to drive past to the roundabout and then back on yourself. Beware it gets busy and there can be selfish groups that will stand in front of you to get their Instagramable photos. The sunset on a clear day is amazing and it turns the Lake golden as the sun sets. Do take repellent, some for the Instagram gangs too!

Highly recommend the sunset visit. We arrived at about 18.30 in El Palmer and in one of the many tourist spots we booked the boat ride at 20.00 (6€ per adult, 4 € children under 9 years) In the meantime we visited the town and made a stop at one of the many bars present.
The boat ride was really impressive, even the children loved it. It takes about 1 hour, and at sunset the boat stops along with the other boats to allow you to enjoy the moment and why not take beautiful photos.

We took a van to Albufera Lake and boarded a small boat exclusively for our tour group. Although the temperature at the time was warm, being out on the lake you are best to bring a windbreaker, as it gets a bit cool. This is a largest freshwater lake in Spain, that 300 species of birds take refuge here throughout the year. After the boat ride we toured an old fishing village, which was semi-interesting. I thought the boat tour, which was part of our premium inclusion, was a waste of time.

The Albufera Natural Park is located about 15 km south of Valencia. You can get there from the city by bus number 24 or 25, but I wonder how you would like to explore the quite extensive park. It is better to take the bike. From the 2nd roundabout at the blue pavilion of Ciudad de las Artes, follow the signs EV-8 / stage 27, then continue to follow the cycle path with red asphalt and you will come along the coast to El Saler and beyond. There is a good cycle path along the beach and you will find various pavilions for a snack or drink. You then have to find your own way to Lake Albufera. This is not indicated properly or not at all. You cycle through a rugged dune landscape. However, you can also cycle from Valencia along the CV-500 / V-15 to get to the lake, but that is quite a busy road and there is no cycle path. I visited the nature park in January and I don't think that is the best time of the year. The area looked barren and also deserted. There were few activities along the lake. Back I first cycled past the rice fields and then cycled again through the dune landscape to the sea. Found a good restaurant there (Restaurante MareMar) for paella and a nice beer. Finally followed the red cycle path back to Valencia. You have to be a bit of a cycling enthusiast to visit and explore Albufera by bike from Valencia.

We got the no 25 bus from navarro reverto (behind courthouse) and went to stop embarcado de l'albufera to get a boat trip around the lake. Lucky we got off because it turned out the no 25 didn't go onto el palmar where we had booked a meal at Arroceria el Rek (see review.) Waited 20 minutes for the no 24 bus to take us the 4 miles there (too dangerous and long to walk along the road). There were loads of boat trips from El Palmar town, so I advise you to get the no 24 all the way to El palmar and do the boat trip and paella in one place!

Lovely day trip to this park. Took the bus from the city centre which was easy and ran every hour. Pretty little town, plenty of cafes and for us the highlight was a boat trip down the river to the lake, very relaxing and plenty of birds to see, great to be in the thick of nature, well recommended
