A comfortable house acquired by José Benlliure is a great exposition of life for the well to do at the time of the early twentieth century.

After perusing the spacious glamorous rooms, including portrait, living, library and bedroom, the lovely garden was next.

Ornately decorated with colourful tiles along the walls, the highlight was the studio at the end. It’s where José worked on his return from Italy in 1912.

It has numerous paintings by himself, plus works by other members of the talented artistic family. There's a fine black and white large photo of father and son, Jose and his son Peppino who died at an early age in 1916.

Apart from paintings and sculptures of many Benlliure family members, this museum has nice historic interiors. Don't forget to get through the garden to the pavillon at the end and go up to the young Peppino Benlliure study.

This museum was interesting in a number of ways: as an historic house, as a family home and as an art gallery. We really enjoyed it. Don't miss the artist's studio at the bottom of the garden. Well worth a visit.

We made some choices of musea being in Valencia and we were glad to have chosen this one. Not knowing this painter, it was very interesting to learn more of him and his son who died very early. They both made a lot of beautiful paintings.

Absolutely worth a visit. A combination mansion/gallery for multiple generations of a family of artists, the museum gives a wonderful glimpse into life for wealthy residents of 19th/20th century Valencia. The strongest elements are the garden and artist’s studio within it - a little like the Leighton House studio in London, the art in the main house and the decoration of the ground-floor rooms. If I had a criticism, it is that the upper rooms have been completely gutted and have none of the atmosphere of the ground floor, although they do display the paintings well. I’d suggest 1.30-2 hours would be sufficient unless you’re more of an art buff than I am.

We would like to move in tomorrow. Lovely house garden and studio. Collection includes works by at least 4 or 5 members of the family. (couldn't always keep track of who was who.) You could easily spend an afternoon here enjoying the art and garden. Make sure to do the Studio at the back of the garden!

I admit I had not heard of the Benlliures nor considered visiting the House/Museum until we received a strong recommendation from an Englishman now living in Valencia for which we thank him.

After the oppressive opulence of the Porcelain Museum this home/museum is like a breath of fresh air. We were especially taken by the collection of watercolours (not all from the Benlliure family) and the life studies of insects made Benlliure;s son in the last year of his life which are in display in the artists studio. Well worth a visit to refresh yourself from the standard sights.

This was on my list from other reviews. It has a courtyard garden and studio on the ground floor. The various Benlliure artists' works are well displayed.
It is a shame that, like other museums in Valencia, the information is only in Spanish or Catalan as there is so much interesting history attached to the place. They have a book on sale at 12euros which would be a good souvenir and helpful.
The private rooms are particularly well kept.
As with other museums in Valencia it was a notional price to enter - especially for retirees.

If you are a fan of fine art and painting it is the place, that you have to visit! Wonderful paintings in very cosy atmosphere of family house! The study of Master is just amazing! It seems that he just left a room a minut ago. And i can also mention a very nice garden. Do not spare your time, go there!

Although it is a nice museum, illustrating an important aspect of Spain's art history, the total dis-interest of its staff is striking. The two individuals behind the desk could not even be bothered to respond when we greeted them on leaving the place. Descriptions and information about the exhibited objects could be much better.
The garden is an oasis of peace and quiet. The exhibition space at the back of the garden could do with some fresh air!
