About

    A good stop in Valencia
This church is a bit pricey for spending such a short time there, but it contains a great deal of history and artifacts. This attraction did have many people inside, I am assuming it is a stop for cruisers. Try to go on days when ships are not in port!

    Valencia Sistine chapel
Having visited the Sistine chapel in Rome I have to say I prefer St Nicholas. The decor is a sight to behold and words will never do it justice. The craftsmanship is beyond comprehension and how long it must have taken is staggering. This was my favourite attraction in the city. The entrance is round the back of the church and not in the plaza

    A golden visit in Valencia
A bit expensive, but for that everything was very well organized and you got a very informative audio guide with the ticket. The line seemed long at first, but it moved pretty quickly. Of course, it is worth buying a ticket in advance, because they have priority when entering.

We bought the combined ticket for EUR8 which was a better deal for entry to this San Nicholas church, the silk museum and the Santos Juanes church. We were at the Sontos Juanes church earlier but entrance was free at the moment due to restoration works. The church had a good audio guide that can be scanned to a mobile phone and should take around 45 minutes. The place had impressive frescos and decent looking stained glass windows.

I heard about the cathedral from a person that was in our tour group, stating that it was called the Valencian “Sistine Chapel”. The San Nicholas Cathedral main entrance door was difficult to find, I saw a few tourists just give up when they couldn’t find the door. The entrance fee was 10 euros, and this attraction was worth the price! The paintings on the ceiling were absolutely magnificent! The church was constructed in the 13th century, remodelled in Gothic style in the 15th century, and in the 17th century, the interior was recoated with Baroque decoration and fresco paintings of scenes of the life of Saint Nicholas and Saint Peter Martyr.

Incredible how among this old historic city, with the busy streets, merchants, & tourists you find a sanctuary of comfort. I was lucky it was part of my walking tour with guide Inga. A wonderful experience and spiritual. Loved it.

You don't have to be a lover of baroque to understand the beauty of San Nicolas. Simply overwhelming.
If Valencia had only this church (and the good food and friendly people) it would be worth a weekend trip all by itself.
If interested in "old" churches and religious art, book the Holy Grail tour with the tourist office: S.Juan del Hospital/Cathedral/S.Nicolas (and the restaurant for crashing afterwards).

The Church of San Nicolás de Bari y San Pedro Mártir is the most impressive church in Valencia. It was erected in 1242 and remodeled several times with different styles like Valencian Gothic, Neo-Gothic and Baroque.
After the remarkable restoration from 2012 to 2016, all those frescoes has been restored to their colourful former glory. I believe is a must-see for anyone visiting the historic center of Valencia.

Open daily except Mondays.

You really need to visit this incredibly decorated church. It's amazing to see in all its glory. The audio guide included in the ticket was a good companion as well.

It's also a perfect example of Catholic misuse of money through history,

It is true that the ceilings are beautiful, the colors and the natural aspects are amazing. Just go and take the QR code explanation on your own smartphone, works perfectly. Pictures allowed, without flash (not needed anyway)
