What a brilliant place for bird watchers or just walking!
Flamingoes are happy feeding here but the real find, in the bird world was the Thelka and Crested Larks. There are Great Grey Shrikes, Kentish Plovers and Serrins. We loved it here.

    Leuke ervaring

Once you find it (not so easy!) there are numerous paths to walk down to the water. You’ve probably never seen pink water like this! And at your feet, salt everywhere. When you get in the water you will find it to be warm and so buoyant you just float and float. It is a very unique experience! Like a spa but free! Water shoes are a must as walking on the salt bed is a painful experience. Also must bring a big jug of water to rinse the salt off when you get out of the water,más leaving it to dry on your skin can be quite unpleasant. You’ll see that everyone who comes brings a large jug of water with them...some people slather on mud from the shores, and rinse it off in the salt lagoon when it has dried...supposed to be very restorative. We have read that Torrevieja has one of the healthiest microclimates in the world because of their salt lagoons.

We rented bicycles and brought swimming gear. The man in the bike shop advised us before we left that swimming was prohibited in the lake. And there were signs up stating the same. Which was a pity. We did have a good day out cycling though.

I liked the serenity of the place. Accessibility was good. The walk ways were even & there appeared to be accessibility for a range of users. Unfortunately the laguna did not look red or have any tint of red. More information what triggeres the red bloom would be appreciated. focus was on bird watching. We saw some water fowls & flamingos... a binocular would have been handy to take.

Difficult trek to the water, passing a multitude of a unique species of snail. The salt lagoon is pink from a distance and blood red when in. I have been with two people who found tha their skin was too sensitive and had to have the salt washed off rapidly, but many people are happy to cover themselves in mud, allow to dry, then soak in the water. Very slippy underfoot, take care.

Based on reviews I expected something better. Water was orange instead of pink, there was mud instead of salt, it was hard to get there and it was stinky. Maybe I chose not the best day for it.

I have a property near here so its within walking distance but its not worth traveling miles for. Yes its pretty but only on a bright Day do you see the true pink! I still haven’t seen a flamingo but theres lots of ways in to it. Its a nature reserve and its cute the way the little ants march across the paths and signs say Do not tread on them!! They do good to the land. Im sure its free but I have only been in on the one side. The froth when its windy amuses all ages and its interesting, but go in a bright sunny day!!!!
