I travelled for 3 hours (each way) via tram and bus from
Alicante to come and do this walk. I was aware it was limited to 300 people per day having researched it prior.
but the website was only in Spanish language so I couldn’t book ahead. I also couldnt find out if it was full or not. I thought instead I would chance my luck, thinking at the very least I could climb halfway, and just turn back when I got To the tricky bit that required minimum numbers. But they actually put the turnstile At the bottom of the mountain. By the time
I arrived at the bottom mountain (around 11am) 300 people had already pre-booked so the walk was full, leaving over a dozen non-Spanish speaking people confused and annoyed at the bottom of the mountain. I imagine the situation would have got worse as the day went on and there was only 1 poor staff member there to control the difficult situation.

I completely understand the need
To regulate numbers, but when it is impossible to book and even find out if the walk is full or not, I had no other option but to travel all that way and find out, in the hope I might be able to do the walk.

The Camilo deal Rey had similar problems but they at least put the website in English to stop people wasting a day travelling there.

The Spanish tourist board should be ashamed.

I traveled hundreds of miles to climb Calpe rock. The park authorities have installed signs stating that if your are found on the path without a reservation you will be fine €600-6000
How to book a reservation not clear or transparent. This made the trip impossible so had to turn back however numerous locals could be seen jumping the barrier
Simply not fair on rule abiding folk

It is a small natural park but it offers a multitude of options to spend the day, from taking a leisurely walk to climbing.
The interpretation center gives you all the information you need and the girls are very nice, there is also a space with free toilets and a small museum to learn more about the flora and fauna that exists in the rock.
Authorization is required to board from the Center, you can order there or online, regardless of the season.
The climb is quite steep but it is very good, it is comfortable.

A lovely great trip.
A few tips that are okay to have with you if you are going on this trip.
- Book time to go, this must be reserved in advance with information from your passport. And the passports must be presented to the guards on the trip.
- Bring enough water if it's hot, recommend having the water in a bag or stomach belt. You need both hands for the climb.
- Wear good mountain shoes, the mountain is smooth and jogging shoes can be easily slipped on.
This is a demanding trip. If you are unclean and or have height scare, you should stay away.
- If you like to take the trip, you can stop at the road map and walk to Mirador de Carabiners. There is a beautiful view, and you get away from the worst parties of climbing and chains that are on to the top of Cim d’Ifac.

We were 6 who walked, 3 pieces reached the top, 3 pieces ended at the Mirador de Carabiners. Those who reached the top spent 35min from guard to the top.
A great trip, but definitely not for everyone to go.

When I visited it wasn’t busy so I was able to enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of nature without being overwhelmed by other tourists.
As has been said in other reviews this walk should not be underestimated. Sturdy footwear is essential for comfort and safety.
Up until the tunnel it is relatively straightforward for anyone of basic ability. However, through and beyond the tunnel it is more challenging with conditions underfoot being uneven, slippery and the path becomes narrower, steeper and with sheer drops. Nearer to the top some scrambling is necessary.
Be prepared for the weather to change. In the shade it can be chilly particularly if there is a wind blowing so an extra layer or two would be good to have.

We were two adults who walked up the calpe mountain in 33c, hot but with lots of drinking and calm pace it went very nice. We spent an hour from the cave to the top. There are smooth rocks in the mountain, very different from home in Norway, I would therefore recommend mountain shoes with good grip and not jogging shoes like I had myself. Great trip and recommended, great with an ice on the canyon when we got down😊

A short walk from the road and the car park area takes you up to several lookouts just before an information centre. Great photos in both directions and good for bird watching as many species of birds nest up there in the peace and quiet of the 'Rock' away from other predators. Track is well used so not a problem.
You can climb right up to the top of the Penon but I understand this is for serious hikers only. It takes about 1 1/2hrs.
There is a nice picnic area by the lookouts and toilets by the information centre.

Climb to Penyal d’Ifach fot some amazing views.

You arrive to a parking with your car (if you drive a bit more there is a better parking upwards).

A bit beyond the parking you have toilets and fountains (very welcome on the way down).

From there you start walking up a path like in a park. When you arrive to a cave, that’s wherethe path will change into something wilder, at some point just dangerous. But we saw people of all ages climbing. No minors allowed beyond the cave.

You will arrive to a point where you choose to go to the Penyal or to a mirador. If you don’t want to climb the mirador has a much shorter and easier path and very nice views.

We went up to the top and then to the mirador. All in all it took us around 1h40 to complete all.

Try to go as early as possible as the sun makes the climb harder. Bring water and for sure sport shoes!!

You can take a gentle walk up as far as the tunnel entrance but after that you need a head for heights and the ability to do a bit of scrambling. If you make it all the way to the top the views are very rewarding. So glad we did it although it was a bit scary in places. There are chains and ropes to help you on the steepest and most slippy parts.

This Parc Natural del Penyal di'ifac is a very beautiful Mountain climbing. It is not for children from age 0 to 18. Adults if possible climb with hiking shoes and bring drinking water along. If you are afraid of height then it is not recommended. Before entering to the Parc Natural it is advisable to register at the entrance.
