- Mittu TLondon, United Kingdom25 contributionsBreathing view and worth to tryThe Peñón de Ilfach is the second big climbing rock . It’s a local beauty spot, bird reserve . It stands impressively tall on the imposing skyline of Calpe and set against Mediterranean blue day sky and the black star lit night sky looks like a painters paradise. The walk to the mid point tunnel is a “tough” up hill walk but my three old daughter managed to do it. But the climb after that is tough and rough. Both the bird watch view point and top of the hill are mind blowing beautiful. Few points where we got scared but otherwise managed trek. The view was he real award of the trek .suggest proper geared shoe and clothing , special in wet seasons . The rocks are very slippery even in dry weather condition.Visited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten December 27, 2022

Struggled to download the form to fill in - eventually worked on Chrome - only to fine out there www nobody there checking today (NYE) and the toilets were closed before 14:00.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 31, 2022
- Cheviot-RanterUnited Kingdom66 contributionsMore than just a rock...The reviews of the Parque Natural de Penyal D'Ifach here seem to focus on that trek up to the top of the rock. An impressive achievement no doubt, but even if I could physically climb it I doubt I would have either the need to do so or the head for heights required! There is so much more here. Lots of well thought out and signboarded walks where you can enjoy the scenery and wildlife. The archaeology around Calp is impressive and the Pobla D'ifach mediaeval village is within the Parque and only a slight uphill to visit. We spent some quality time here and left with precious memories.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 14, 2023

I travelled for 3 hours (each way) via tram and bus from
Alicante to come and do this walk. I was aware it was limited to 300 people per day having researched it prior.
but the website was only in Spanish language so I couldn’t book ahead. I also couldnt find out if it was full or not. I thought instead I would chance my luck, thinking at the very least I could climb halfway, and just turn back when I got To the tricky bit that required minimum numbers. But they actually put the turnstile At the bottom of the mountain. By the time
I arrived at the bottom mountain (around 11am) 300 people had already pre-booked so the walk was full, leaving over a dozen non-Spanish speaking people confused and annoyed at the bottom of the mountain. I imagine the situation would have got worse as the day went on and there was only 1 poor staff member there to control the difficult situation.
I completely understand the need
To regulate numbers, but when it is impossible to book and even find out if the walk is full or not, I had no other option but to travel all that way and find out, in the hope I might be able to do the walk.
The Camilo deal Rey had similar problems but they at least put the website in English to stop people wasting a day travelling there.
The Spanish tourist board should be ashamed.

I traveled hundreds of miles to climb Calpe rock. The park authorities have installed signs stating that if your are found on the path without a reservation you will be fine €600-6000
How to book a reservation not clear or transparent. This made the trip impossible so had to turn back however numerous locals could be seen jumping the barrier
Simply not fair on rule abiding folk

A short walk from the road and the car park area takes you up to several lookouts just before an information centre. Great photos in both directions and good for bird watching as many species of birds nest up there in the peace and quiet of the 'Rock' away from other predators. Track is well used so not a problem.
You can climb right up to the top of the Penon but I understand this is for serious hikers only. It takes about 1 1/2hrs.
There is a nice picnic area by the lookouts and toilets by the information centre.

Climb to Penyal d’Ifach fot some amazing views.
You arrive to a parking with your car (if you drive a bit more there is a better parking upwards).
A bit beyond the parking you have toilets and fountains (very welcome on the way down).
From there you start walking up a path like in a park. When you arrive to a cave, that’s wherethe path will change into something wilder, at some point just dangerous. But we saw people of all ages climbing. No minors allowed beyond the cave.
You will arrive to a point where you choose to go to the Penyal or to a mirador. If you don’t want to climb the mirador has a much shorter and easier path and very nice views.
We went up to the top and then to the mirador. All in all it took us around 1h40 to complete all.
Try to go as early as possible as the sun makes the climb harder. Bring water and for sure sport shoes!!

You can take a gentle walk up as far as the tunnel entrance but after that you need a head for heights and the ability to do a bit of scrambling. If you make it all the way to the top the views are very rewarding. So glad we did it although it was a bit scary in places. There are chains and ropes to help you on the steepest and most slippy parts.

This Parc Natural del Penyal di'ifac is a very beautiful Mountain climbing. It is not for children from age 0 to 18. Adults if possible climb with hiking shoes and bring drinking water along. If you are afraid of height then it is not recommended. Before entering to the Parc Natural it is advisable to register at the entrance.

Nice walk up to the tunnel. After you cross the tunnel, breathtaking views although I had to climb up to the top. To be fair, there were younger girls going up in dresses and flat fancy shoes. I needed hiking books, sun glasses and a cap!

Very nice trail. There are basically 2 parts: first part leads you to a tunnel and is steep but easy; and gives already astonishing views. After the tunnel it gets more challenging. I did not go to the top because it was getting too late and I certainly didn't want to end up on the difficult part of the trail in the dark. And of course, you have to wear good shoes, and don't be afraid of hights too much.

What a climb. Takes some stamina and agility. Not for kids or elderly, though i am 67 and wife is 60. We are pretty fit though. Wear good trainers or walking boots not sandals. Is slippery in parts. Hold the rope or chain where you can. Be patient near other climbers. Took us 90 mins up and 70 mins down. Best when its not busy. Views are spectacular. Be safe above all.
