Plaza Mayor is the Main Square in Castelló, the main city in the homonymous region, in Spain. It is a very nice square, where you can see the most important buildings of the city: the Town Hall, the main church and bell tower (called El Fadrí), and the central market of the city. In fact, is the most important sightseeing point in the city. So, if you walk around all city, I am sure you come here. Also, it is the place, where the most important events and parties of the city are done.
(see also Mercado Central, Museo de Bellas Artes de Castelló, Parroquia Santa Maria, Refugio Antiaereo, El Fadrí, Museu d’Art Contemporani and Museo del Mar)

There are so many lovely attractions and sights in the great Plaza.

Foremost is the magnificent Cathedral with its marvellous façade and richly ornate interior. Next to it is its Bell Tower - El Fadrí.

At the centre is an attractive fountain that was in full flow. Across is the popular and distinctive Central Market that is continually busy and frequented.

In a fine edifice with a quintet of arches is the fine City Hall.

Pleasure square with the market on one side and the church on the other. Open space with a few seats to take a rest but not the nicest place in Spain.

I only visited this place after work after the adjoining central market had shut.
However ---- at this time of day (1800) with the fountain playing and almost complete quiet - I found it a great place to unwind and relax - just watching the world go by.
Loads of cafes nearby for a drink/ snack.
Sit back and soak in the lovely surrounding buildings - very relaxing.

Nearness of sights, warmth and natural settings. In addition there is plenty of beach areas and great food, specially seafood.

Go beyond to the smaller plaza (adjacent to this) for a few good Tapas choices. The plaza that contained the Tapas restaurant choices put me in mind of Sant Marc's in Venice.

This square is beautiful. It's the home of the Town Hall, Cathedral, Market and the Fadri Tower.
Right next to the tower you can find the Tourist Information office with its lovely friendly staff.

To be honest the old town of Castellon is not really beautiful or impressive, but this town square is for us the most beautiful place around the center. It is surrounded for the central market, the old town hall and the Cathedral, having lot of live all the day for the local families and tourist visitors.

Plaza Mayor is the heart of the Castellón city center. Old buildings, the church and a fountain give the square it's interesting appeal. You can hardly find any shadow here, but in the adjoining Mercata you can stroll along between al kinds of small shops under a big ceiling.

This is a great place to visit and gives the right flavour of Castellon. Every tourist should visit.
