Green park with Japanese flavour
Oct 2018 • Couples
Parque de Yamaguchi was designed by Japanese architects to celebrate the connection that Pamplona has with its Twin city in Japan, Yamaguchi. The two cities were connected in this way back in 1980 in memory of the evangelising visit to Japan in the 16th century by St. Francis Xavier, patron saint of Navarre. The Park is quite large and is beautifully landscaped. It has many unusual plants and trees, and many water features with some bird wildlife. The park has been built on a former factory site! Because of the way the park has been designed it symbolises the celebration of the four seasons and transports the visitor to the Tea Ceremony, a tradition dating from the 16th century, and turns the garden into a spiritual meeting place. It is a lovely area to go into and relax. Either walk around or sit down, or even have a picnic. It is quite lovely and is definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful green space, Asian flair

I just happened upon this space while looking for a spot to enjoy lunch. It's a large, open park. There's a small lake with a fountain feature in the middle, many benches, large open green spaces, and a playground at one end. The paths are paved - would be easy to navigate with a stroller, wheelchair, etc.

A fantastic place to spend some time! I really enjoy walking at the park, I stopped at a restaurant near the park for pizza and wine. Later I sat beside the water and watched the people walk and the ducks. The Japanes thematic is very interesant! Simply lovely! I’d visit this park often if I lived in Pamplona!

Pleasant spot during fiesta

Not a big park but very pleasant and well laid out. The Japanese theme is strong and it is a soothing location to relax for a while.

Pleasant walk in winter

We enjoyed the water features, although in winter it does look rather bleak. It must be a lovely respite for residents in the summer

We walked the Parque on a quiet sunny Sunday, not knowing we were following the Camino route to the city centre! My forester-husband was amazed at the types of trees that are in the park and at the Cuitadela too.

Great spot for camping
My friend and I love Japan. We decided to check out the Yamaguchi park in Pamplona for a nights accommodation. We arrived at 11pm with families and couples about enjoying the ambience. We put up our tent and spent the night just on a nice patch of grass under some trees for protection. The park has many facilities such as a lake for swimming, a gym, child's playground and a service station close by with excellent bathroom facilities. Close to major restaurants and bars this is the place to be.

A Slice of Japan in Pamplona
May 2014 • Solo
This was just about the last thing I expected to see here in Pamplona. What a pleasant surprise. This small park is peaceful and perfect for silent contemplation - typical of a Japanese garden. The surrounding larger park is a great place to cycle or walk on a nice, sunny day.
