This is one of my favourite places in the world and in Pamplona. It's a central feature point to get bearings, to walk along to and from the Plaza and simply to sit in and observe. In summer the trees provide the shade for comfort and in winter you can catch what sun might be available. The passing parade is a snapshot of the people of Pamplona and the tourists at appropriate times, the good, the bad and the ugly. Along its edges you will find the PO, a bank and atm, and of course bars and cafes, though not as many as you would expect. My favourite is Nyam . . . which means Yummy, enough said. From there you can scoot off one of the side streets into the various other sections of this city with lots to offer.

Paseo de Sarasate is a nice tree-lined wide avenue. It's a good place to go for a relaxed walk. It's not a very long street, but it's wide enough to have a nice, wide walking area in the middle surrounded by the trees on either side, and traffic on either side of the street. At one end of the street there is a beautiful monument, called Monumento a los Fueros, and behind it, or in front of it, depending on where you are standing, is the local Parliament building. The Monument has to do with the laws and/or customs of the local population and their struggle to achieve unity and uphold their laws. On the other side of the Parliament, if you keep walking, you will come across a beautiful public square, Plaza del Castillo. This Plaza is lovely, with a couple of sculptures, and is surrounded by many cafes and restaurants. We walked along this street and in the general area a couple of times and it was quite relaxing, with a particularly nice atmosphere towards the evening when more people are out and about.

At the head of this wide rectangular square stands the symbol of the liberties of Navarre, this emblematic monument stands here since 1903. On this square are the Parliament Buildings of Navarre, the National Bank of Spain and the Saint Nicholas Church. On the square also the statue of the king of Pamplona García Ramírez. It is a good place to think about the history of Pamplona!

It is a nice wide street with plenty of seating and a welcome respite the hot sun but it is just another street afterall. It does lead to the underwhelming Parliament building but more importantly the Citadel.
