The Irati Forest is one of the places worth visiting and walking through its forests and admiring its landscapes. You can also spend as much time as you want, you have countless routes, places, landscapes, etc. with the full range of difficulties, short, long, with or without slope.
We stayed three nights in Ochogavía, a beautiful town and the perfect place to have a starting point.
Two days we went to the Casa de Irati (mountain road of about 24 km that must be taken carefully), in the parking lot you have to pay a maintenance fee (€7 per car with a discount if you have the voucher they give you in the accommodations in the area). There they inform you very kindly and give you a map of the area. You also have the Casas de Irati bar and restaurant if you want to snack, eat or have a coffee.
We did three routes, the Cubo waterfall route and the Errekaidorra interpretive trail of around 10 km with information panels that recreate life, history and everything related to the area. You can do the Cube Waterfall alone, round trip along the same completely flat path of about 3.5 km.
The second is the route of the Zabaleta Forest Trail whose midpoint is the Irabia reservoir, also around 10 km.
The third, after visiting the ruins of the Casa del Rey and the hermitage of the Virgen de las Nieves, the Senda de los Sentidos. Beautiful tour in the forest with an explanation of all the types of trees that you find. We went to the river and came back the same way since we couldn't cross the river without getting wet.
All three are perfectly signposted and cannot be missed.
Another day we went to do the Holtzarte footbridge route, located in France and one hour from Ochagavía. The route and the suspension bridge are spectacular. We loved it. We completed the day walking the streets of Ochagavía.
The day back we did the Otsate Ravine route that begins at the Ochagavía campsite. Beautiful walk through a dense forest of around 6.5 km.
We were all delighted and we will return in another season to take other walks through this beautiful forest.

The Irati Forest is a group of mountains around a reservoir. The main vegetation is the beech trees, so there is the very beautiful environment in spring and autumn, when the leaves yellow.
Access through the part of Orbaizeta, in the Aezkoa Valley (to the west) and through Ochagavia in the Salazar Valley (to the east).
The concrete road from Orbaizeta is about 6 or 7 km. It is very narrow and difficult to cross 2 vehicles, especially when one of the two is a motorhome, van, SUV, etc. In rainy times, you have to be careful to get out of the cement, because the barrel of the banks is dangerous.
The scenery is very pleasant, and the countless trails and forest tracks are quite accessible to hikers of any level. I especially recommend the one that leaves the end of the track and surrounds the reservoir.
It is a recommended area to visit, especially for people from big cities. Admission to the Jungle costs 7 euros per vehicle.

Quite a long drive from the Baztan Valley, where we stayed, but it was worth it. The views of the Irati River are incredible. We stopped at the old Orbaiceta weapons factory and continued to the Arpea cave, now in France. When we got out of the car, we were surprised by a huge wind, but the panoramic views of the jungle were worth it.

One of the delights of getting to this valley is the joinery. We drove from olive past soaring mountains, up to high mountain meadows and saw wonderful sweeps of clouds. Passing by small mountain villages like Orchagivia that are stunning.
When you arrive that the selva there are information kiosks and guides to help you. Don't forget to pay for the car parking! We did one of the walks to the lakes - about 6 miles - through mixed trees and really enjoyable walk for about 3 hours. People come and stay and camp, others come to do long distance walks and others just be close to nature. It is excellent and worth spending time here.

Impressive nature, excellent routes for trekking. I recommend a visit to Europe's 2nd most important forest after Germany's Black Forest

We went to Irati Forst in late October for a family trip. We did some hikes in the area which has an amazing scenery around. You must go off tracks a bit to avoid the most crowded places but when you do the place is just magical. Very reccomendable to go in autumn as the colors between trees are amazing, you can perfectly see the difference of species. All between browns, yellow, orange and green...if you are a fan of photography this is your place.

There are no words to describe. It’s Amazing, beautiful, colourful, lovely and spectacular.
At the entrance you can see a map with different routes (different distances) marked, so you can choose which one to do. The staff explains and gives all the necessary indications for each route. All the routes are well marked and it’s easy to follow.
Awesome place for beautiful pictures if you are a trigger free.

I had heard about this forest long time ago and today I have visited it, and I know that I'll come back again.
We took the road to Orbaitzeta from Pamplona to visit Aezkoa valley. We walked Irabia lake track (10 km, 4 hours, easy). Shame that the lake was almost dry and tha this year we have a late fall.
If you love nature and are in Navarra (or close) in fall you must visit this place.

A breathtaking scenery, amazing views to the dam in the middle of the forest. Lovely walk, you can choose either a 4km walk or 10km walk around the dam and forest.
Easy access and parking to start warming up for a beautiful walk. Recommended for BTT!
Not very far from Pamplona, around 1hr30min drive.
