You do get a very nice view; but the day we went it was a bit hazy. It has been hazy for days, maybe that is the way the air is here. There is a restaurant and coffee shop and many places to run and hike in the area.

We visited the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Fuensanta as part of a shore excursion from Cartagena. The church is located outside of Murcia and the ambient temperature in this area is much cooler than downtown Murcia. The countryside here is also very peaceful.

There are beautiful views of the area surrounding Murcia and Murcia's skyline. The church inside is also very lovely with lots of gold ornamentation.

A monestry set in the hills above Murcia, peaceful with lovely walks [steep] inclines.
The restaurant serves 'greasy' food, with tired oil. its OK for a beer and cold tapa.
Best to bring a icnnic and find a quiet spot to enjoy the great surroundings. It is VERY busy on high holy days!

Lovely site to visit - impressive architecture of the church, but we like best the terrace overlooking Murcia city, the plain and the mountains beyond. The cafe serves nice coffee and a good range of tapas. Service is attentive even when its busy - we've been several times. As the season move towards spring it'll be a lovely spot for sunset views over the mountains. Well worth a visit - as is the El Valle National Park just further along the ridge road.

Our Lady of the Holy Fountain is a rough translation for the name of this sanctuary, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under that title - she is the patroness of Murcia. The Santuario is really a Benedictine Convent housing a community of nuns living the Rule of St. Benedict, the Father of Western Monasticism. Located on a hill, a visit to this convent monastery gives you a feel for the isolation sought by the nuns dediacted to work and prayer. The good sisters do run a religious book and souvenir shop as a way of maintaining themselves. I note the genuine hospitality offered by the nuns, a characteristic of Benedictine monasteries. The chapel is not overly ostentatious - you will see elaborate baroque and gothic churches elsewhere in Spain.

Santuario de la Fuensanta (Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Fuensanta) sits on a high hill a few miles from Murcia. There are beautiful panoramic views from this point.

The church has a baroque style, and a gorgeous interior (including the alter with its golden setting) with a statue of the Virgen de la Fuensanta, Patroness of Murcia.

Our tour guide, Trini from Spain Day Tours, explained to us about the procession of the Virgin Fuensanta, which is brought to Murcia and back again, on a huge “trono” (throne) or float. Later in our trip we were in Malaga and our tour guide took us to a building that housed two tronos. They were amazing to see up close. He explained about the processions. These tronos weigh in the thousands of pounds. Imagine carrying it from the Sanctuary to Murcia, which took many hours, downhill and then back uphill. Amazing.

There's a gift shop on site, where I purchased candied covered almonds.

You only need about 30-45 minutes to visit this place.

I went to Murcia on a Sunday and to my disappointment absolutely everything was closed, despite contradictory information on Tripadvisor and Google Reviews.
In order to salvage the 2 hour trip I decided to make my way to this sanctuary. Accessible on foot, 2 hours from the center of Murcia, it's a bit of a walk, especially in the roaring Spanish heat, but was pleasantly worth the trip.
Very serene area providing the opportunity to take some cracking pics of the city and a very pretty altarpiece within the cathedral.
If this was the only thing you intended on visiting in Murcia, it perhaps would not be worth it, yet for a pleasant spot of relaxation in the afternoon after some heavier work in the city, it most probably is.

Took a local bus to Algazares and then a 2k walk up the hill to this lovely site. Nice lunch on the terrace overlooking the Murcia city and valley

Fantastic place to have tapas in the restaurant at this venue. Amazing views of Murcia and country side. Unfortunately we could only visit when the monastery was closed, we will visit again soon to see it all.
