This great museum we already knew from a previous visit, we really liked it and we have returned. The works of this great Murcian artist, his paintings are exhibited, although he was also a writer and I advise reading, if not his complete works, than also, his interesting compilation of letters. It is free and is located on three floors of a beautiful historic building

A beautiful collection of paintings by local Murcia artist, Ramón Gaya, housed in a traditional building in the centre of the city. We loved discovering the work of Gaya, plus other works by Matisse, Rembrandt, Hockney and others.

Even better, the museum is free to visit! My only suggestion would be for the museum to include some English descriptions and signs so that foreign visitors can gain further insights into the works.

We must admit we had never heard of local artist, Gaya, before our visit to Murcia. However, we learnt so much and enjoyed this museum, in the centre of Murcia, (Plaza Santa Catalina).
The museum is not very big, but spread over several floors, served by a lift. It is peaceful and restful, with seats throughout.
How delightful that it is free of charge. Best to check opening hours, as it is closed 2pm to 5 pm. Then, reopens in the late afternoon.

Before we went to Murcia we had never heard of this artist. He is a wonderful artist and a son of the city. The museum is housed in a lovely old mansion in Plaza Santa Catalina. We loved his work. There are many paintings on display - including tribute work of his own favourite art works. Murcia City Council gave him the freedom freedom of the city. Both the house and the paintings are really worth seeing.

I love this artists work! Being a 'student' of watercolours myself, he adds an intriguing personal touch that sets him above his peers.

This gallery is dedicated to the art work of Ramón Gaya ,a local of Murcia.

There are many personal artefacts of the artist and his work is interesting

The gallery is in a nice building in the centre of town and covers a number of levels.

Lady in the tourist office recommended a visit to this museum and we were so glad we went. It is a delightful building and such a pleasing collection of paintings. A peaceful oasis and all for free.

Of special interest are Gaya' s Hommages. These watercolors are of still lifes with a painting in the background of an iconic painting by a master, for instance Picasso and van Gough. His poster illustrations are masterful quick sketches which convey the essence of the topic with just a few lines.

An excellent outing for a rainy day in Murcia (of which there are not many in a year). This little jewel of a gallery holds works by the Murcian 20th century artist, Ramón Gaya, in what was his family home in the centre of town just around the corner from the Plaza de Las Flores with its tapas bars and outdoor dining and only five minutes from the Cathedral. The winding staircase is beautiful and worth a photo in itself but the Gaya watercolours are delightful. You can also catch poetry readings and other events there as well as other exhibitions but if you don't know Gaya's work, pop in and just wander around the three floors. Entry is free.

Gaya was an unknown artist to us but we quickly understood why he deserves a museum. Gaya is a don't miss watercolorist and the museum is fantastic. Highly recommended.
