Part of the Naval Museum and this is the submarine designed by a Spanish Naval officer and credited with being the first fully operational submarine to fire a torpedoe underwater and was one of the first electric battery powered submarines

The original and restored submarine is displayed in its own building just around the corner from the Naval Museum and well sign posted.

A donation of €3 is asked for by the guy on the door or if you have already made a donation in the main museum then show the ticket.

Informative displays about the submarine and its designer in both Spanish and English.

El Peral was a prototype submarine built by Isaac Peral in 1888 for the Spanish Navy and the first submarine in history to use electric propulsion to drive its propellers. Initially there was an outdoor monument to it but in December 2012 it was moved to the Museo Naval (Naval Museum of Cartagena across from the cruise terminal/harbor) for its restoration. It was open to the public in 2013. Today this small submarine is mounted on a large pedestal and you can either walk around it or climb steps to get an up close look. Cost of viewing it is included in the Museo Naval price of admission.

Returning to Cartagena has been wonderful, remembering old times. We stayed at the Alfonso Visit the Alcázares and eat the caldero at the Balneario de la Encarnación, a very beautiful place. Visit Cala Cortina, a beautiful cove to see and take a swim, there is a restaurant there, where we ate but the food was bad, I don't recommend it. And another good place to eat in Cartagena is in the fishermen's neighborhood. Visit its Roman Theatre, Isaac Peral's submarine, the nautical museum and stroll through its streets.
